Part 3 - Line 1

THE MUSEUM EDUCATES, INSPIRES, EMPOWERS, AND SHAPES THE FUTURE BY INTEGRATING WOMEN'S DISTINCTIVE HISTORY INTO THE CULTURE AND HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

NWHM CELEBRATED ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY IN 2021. TO HIGHLIGHT THE ANNIVERSARY, NWHM OFFERED A FOUR-PART VIRTUAL SYMPOSIUM SERIES, "THE HIDDEN WAVES OF FEMINISM," IN THE MONTHS OF APRIL, JUNE, SEPTEMBER, AND DECEMBER. THE SERIES EXAMINED AND HIGHLIGHTED EARLY ACTIVISM, THE ROLES OF MINORITY WOMEN, AND THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL MOVEMENTS TO SECURE WOMEN'S RIGHTS. AS THE COVID PANDEMIC CONTINUED, THE MUSEUM CONTINUED TO ENHANCE ITS ALREADY EXTENSIVE ONLINE OFFERINGS. OFFERINGS INCLUDED SUNDAYS@HOME WEBINARS, BRAVE GIRLS VIRTUAL STORY TIMES ON THE MUSEUM'S YOUTUBE CHANNEL, VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS, TOOLKITS AND LESSON PLANS, AND MUCH MORE. THE HIGHLY-REGARDED SUMMER EDUCATORS' INSTITUTE WAS HELD VIRTUALLY FOR THE FIRST TIME. NWHM'S DEEP EXPERIENCE WITH VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING SERVED THE NEARLY 5 MILLION VISITORS TO OUR WEBSITE WELL.

IN 2021, NWHM MADE EXCITING PROGRESS TOWARD BEING NOT ONLY A VIRTUAL MUSEUM BUT ALSO HAVING A PHYSICAL PRESENCE IN WASHINGTON D.C. IN 2021 THE MUSEUM AND THE DCPL (DC PUBLIC LIBRARY) BEGAN TO COLLABORATE ON A MUSEUM-IN-RESIDENCE AT THE MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. MEMORIAL LIBRARY. NWHM ALSO RECRUITED A FULL-TIME CURATOR TO LEAD THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN INITIAL EXHIBIT. THIS STEP REFLECTS NWHM'S COMMITMENT TO BRING WOMEN'S HISTORY TO PEOPLE IN A UNIQUE AND ACCESSIBLE WAY ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

IN THE LATE SPRING OF 2020, NWHM LAUNCHED WOMEN WRITING HISTORY: A CORONAVIRUS JOURNALING PROJECT, AN INITIATIVE DESIGNED TO ENSURE THAT WOMEN AND GIRLS' UNIQUE VOICES AND EXPERIENCES WERE INCLUDED IN THE COVID-19 STORY. THROUGH THIS PROJECT, WOMEN AND GIRLS OF ALL AGES RECORDED THEIR DAILY THOUGHTS AND EXPERIENCES IN ORDER TO DOCUMENT THE IMPACT OF THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC ON WOMEN'S LIVES. IN 2021, THAT PROJECT WAS BROUGHT TO LIFE WITH THE DEVELOPMENT AND LAUNCH OF A MICRO-SITE TO SHARE THE SUBMISSIONS. THE SITE WENT LIVE ON AUGUST 19, 2021 AND SUBMISSIONS CONTINUED TO BE ACCEPTED THROUGH DECEMBER 2021. THERE WERE NEARLY 500 SUBMISSIONS FROM AROUND THE WORLD.
