TO SUPPORT THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEW WORK IN DANCE BY: EXPLORING THE FULL POTENTIAL OF THE CREATIVE PROCESS IN DANCE SERVING AS A CATALYST FOR ARTISTIC, CULTURAL AND COMMUNITY ADVANCEMENT AND ENRICHMENT STRENGTHENING THE NATIONAL DANCE ECOSYSTEM

FY21 WAS NCCAKRONS FOURTH FULL YEAR OF OPERATIONS AND PROGRAMMING. ACTIVITIES CONTINUED TO PIVOT DUE TO COVID-19 WITH PRIMARY SUPPORT AND HOSTING OF ARTISTS TAKING PLACE IN THE VIRTUAL SPACE. NCCAKRON OFFERED SATELLITE RESIDENCIES TO: MOVEMENT ART IS, LIZ LERMAN, SEAN DORSEY, CHARLES O. ANDERSON, AND DANCE IQUAIL!, AND DANCE HEGINBOTHAM. DANCING LAB: BLKMENMOVES VIRTUALLY CONNECTED CHARLES O. ANDERSON, JEAN APPOLON, KEVIN LEE-Y GREEN, AND DOMINIC MOORE-DUNSON.


A JOINT INITIATIVE WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF AKRON MARY SCHILLER MYERS LECTURE IN THE ARTS SERIES INCLUDES A THREE-PART PLATFORM ENTITLED IDEAS IN MOTION:-21ST CENTURY DANCE PRACTICES REMOTELY ENGAGED ARTISTS AMY MILLER, ABBY ZBIKOWSKI, JESSE FACTOR, BRIDGEMAN|PACKER, BEBE MILLER, PAULA MANN, HELEN SIMONEAU AND KAYLA FARRISH WITH UA STUDENTS. -COMMUNITY COMMISSIONING RESIDENCY (INAUGURAL): CARA HAGAN-INSIDE THE DANCERS STUDIO PODCAST LAUNCHED IN MAY 2021, REFLECTING A LIVE LUNCHTIME LECTURE SERIES.A MULTI-YEAR GRANT AWARD FROM THE ANDREW W. MELLON FOUNDATION LAUNCHED THE CREATIVE ADMINISTRATIVE RESEARCH PROGRAM INCLUDING VIRTUAL INVESTIGATIVE RETREATS WITH BRIAN BROOKS, RAJA FEATHER KELLY, JAAMIL OLAWALE KOSOKO, RON K. BROWN/EVIDENCE, RASHAUN MITCHELL + SILAS RIENER, BEBE MILLER, ABBY ZBIKOWSKI, MARJANI FORTE-SAUNDERS/7NMS, KATE WALLICH, AND BANNING BOULDIN/NEW DIALECT.


DANCING LAB: SOUTH ASIAN EXPERIMENTAL DANCE ARTISTS LIONEL POPKIN, SUJATA GOEL, HARI KRISHNAN, PARIJAT DESAI, PRAMILA VASUDEVAN, AND MEENA MURUGESAN MET TO DISCUSS CASTE AND IDENTITY IN THEIR DANCEMAKING. DANCING LAB: ART SPEAKS 2.0 CONNECTED ARTISTS KELSEY PASCHICH, MEGAN LOWE, ROSY SIMAS AND TARA BURNS WITH S3 TECHNOLOGIES AND KINETECH ARTS. NCCAKRON PARTNERED WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF AKRON ZTV TO PRODUCE DANCING CONVERSATIONS FOR A BRAND-NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL.
