THE BARBARA BUSH HOUSTON LITERACY FOUNDATION IS DEDICATED TO IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR HOUSTONIANS ACROSS ALL AGES THROUGH THE POWER OF LITERACY - THE ABILITY TO READ, WRITE, SPEAK CLEARLY, AND THINK CRITICALLY.

THE FOUNDATION DISTRIBUTED $1,396,606 IN GRANTS TO SUPPORT FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAMS, ADULT LITERACY PROGRAMS AND DIRECT SERVICES, IN SCHOOL LITERACY INTERVENTION PROGRAMS FOR STRUGGLING READERS AND SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAMS TO DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN, AS WELL AS TO EXPAND ACCESS TO BOOKS AND EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS AND RESOURCES TO LOW INCOME FAMILIES.
