TO CREATE HEALTHY AND RESILIENT COMMUNITIES, IRONWOOD TREE EXPERIENCE MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO ENGAGE WITH THE NATURAL WORLD AND BE STEWARDS OF THE ENVIRONMENT.

Part 3 - Line 4a

ITE CONDUCTED FIVE INTERNSHIPS FOR YOUTH AGES 14-20, AND FOUR OF THESE PROVIDED INTERNS WITH MONETARY STIPENDS. THESE INTERNSHIPS WERE CALLED DESERT YOUTH HERITAGE PROJECT, YOUTH AMBASSADORS FOR SOUTHWEST CULTURES, WILDERNESS WARRIORS, YOUTH FOR BLUE SKIES, AND ENVISIONING URBAN TO WILD. THE GOAL OF THESE PROGRAMS IS TO ENGAGE YOUNG PEOPLE IN STEWARDSHIP OF THE LAND AND THEIR COMMUNITIES. IN THESE INTERNSHIPS, YOUTH ARE GUIDED THROUGH FIELD EXPLORATION AND CONNECTED WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO LEARN ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT, CULTURE, AND HISTORY OF THE SOUTHWEST, AS WELL AS TOPICS LIKE CLIMATE CHANGE AND INTERSECTIONAL ENVIRONMENTALISM. INTERNS CONDUCT RESEARCH, GAIN SKILLS, AND PRESENT THEIR FINDINGS TO THE PUBLIC. BENEFITED 37 YOUNG PEOPLE FROM THESES INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS.


THE EXEMPT PURPOSE ACHIEVEMENTS THAT OCCURRED DURING THIS TIMEFRAME WERE ITE PARTNERED WITH TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS TO PROVIDE THE FIELD STUDIES FOR SCHOOLS PROGRAM. IN THESE PROGRAMS, STUDENTS ENGAGE IN FIELD-BASED ACTIVITIES THAT ARE EXPERIENTIAL AND HANDS-ON. OUTINGS TO PUBLIC LANDS AND THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT FOCUS ON ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE, DISCOVERY, AND SKILL-BUILDING ACTIVITIES THAT CONNECT STUDENTS WITH NATURE AND FIELD SCIENCE EXPERTS. ITE PROVIDES SKILLED STAFF, EXPERIENCE, AND RESOURCES THAT SUPPORT TEACHERS AND FOSTER LEARNING. ITE ALSO PROVIDES TRANSPORTATION, FIELD CURRICULA, AND EQUIPMENT. BENEFITED 946 YOUNG PEOPLE FROM THESE PROGRAMS AND 11 TEACHERS THROUGH PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS.


YOUTH ACTION COMMUNITY PROGRAM IS A NETWORK OF ITE YOUTH PARTICIPANTS, AGES 14-20, AND YOUTH ACTION COMMUNITY PROGRAM YOUNG ALUMNI THAT PROMOTES ECOLOGY AND BIOSCIENCE LESSONS, INTERSECTIONAL ENVIRONMENTALISM, AND COMMUNITY CARE THROUGH WORKSHOPS AND COMMUNITY EVENTS. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, YOUTH CREATE CONNECTIONS WITH PEERS AND MENTORS WHILE GAINING FRIENDSHIPS, LEADERSHIP AND OUTDOOR SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCES IN OUTDOOR RECREATION, ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION, AND CONSERVATION. BENEFITED 67 YOUTH AND YOUNG ALUMNI AND OVER 200 FRIENDS AND FAMILY.
