SUPPORTED CLINICAL RESEARCH STUDIES THAT IMPROVE TREATMENT ANDCURE OF HEALTH PROBLEMS PREVALENT AMONG VETERAN PATIENTS AND THERELEVANT GENERAL POPULATION. SPECIAL EMPHASIS IS PLACED ONPROJECTS THAT DEVELOP NEW TECHNOLOGY, DRUG THERAPIES ANDREHABILITATION FOR THE AGING POPULATION. SUPPORT IS ALSO PROVIDEDFOR BASIC SCIENCE RESEARCH PROJECTS DESIGNED TO ACQUIRE NEWKNOWLEDGE LEADING TO IMPROVEMENTS IN THE PREVENTION, DIAGNOSIS ANDTREATMENT OF DISEASES AND DISABILITIES.


SUPPORTED EDUCATION AND TRAINING RELATED ACTIVITIES FOR THE BENEFIT OF VETERANS, THEIR FAMILIES, STAFF AND THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE. INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM, IS A DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES, HSRS FUNDED PROJECT, WHICH INVOLVES EDUCATING CAREGIVERS OF VETERANS AND IN COMPASSIONATE CARE OF VETERANS WITH DEMENTIA. THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS PROGRAM ARE: TRAINING CURRENT AND FUTURE PROVIDERS TO ASSESS AND ADDRESS THE PRIMARY CARE NEEDS OF OLDER ADULTS; TRANSFORMING CLINICAL TRAINING ENVIRONMENTS TO BECOME AGE-FRIENDLY HEALTH SYSTEMS; DELIVERING COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE PATIENTS, FAMILIES, CAREGIVERS, AND DIRECT CARE WORKERS WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS TO IMPROVE HEALTH OUTCOMES FOR OLDER ADULTS.
