THE MISSION OF NEWHOUSE IS TO SHATTER THE BARRIERS THAT FEED THE CYCLE OF ABUSE AND FOR ALL PEOPLE TO LIVE A LIFE FREE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

THE SHELTER EMPLOYS OVER 12 TRAINED ADVOCATES AND ONE COURT ADVOCATE TO ANSWER EACH CALL TO OUR 24-HOUR CITY-WIDE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HOTLINE. IN A TRAUMA-INFORMED MANNER, THE ADVOCATES RESPOND TO A DIVERSE RANGE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE-RELATED QUESTIONS, SHARE REFERRALS AND LOCAL RESOURCES TO MEET INQUIRIES, PROMOTE SAFETY PLANNING, AND PROVIDE CRISIS INTERVENTION. THE COURT ADVOCATE ALSO RESPONDS TO CONCERNS REGARDING ORDERS OF PROTECTION AND NAVIGATING THE LEGAL SYSTEM. IN 2021, OUR ADVOCATES RESPONDED TO 8,473 HOTLINE CALLS, AND NEWHOUSE HIRED AN ATTORNEY FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS TO WORK DIRECTLY WITH SURVIVORS AND MANAGE THE COURT ADVOCACY TEAM.


NEWHOUSE CELEBRATED THEIR 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF LIFESAVING WORK AS AN EMERGENCY SHELTER FOR THOSE FLEEING DOMESTIC ABUSE. WE PROVIDE SAFE SHELTER, HEALING THERAPY, HOT MEALS, CLOTHING AND ALL OTHER BASIC LIVING NECESSITIES, CASE MANAGEMENT, JOB-SKILL TRAINING, EDUCATION ADVANCEMENT, AND TRANSITIONAL HOUSING SUPPORT. OUR DIRECT SERVICES PROGRAM PROVIDES A WIDE ARRAY OF WRAP-AROUND SERVICES TO PROVIDE LIFE SKILLS AND TOOLS TO EMPOWER VICTIMS ON THEIR JOURNEY TO BECOMING SELF-SUFFICIENT SURVIVORS. FOR ADULT SURVIVORS, WE PROVIDE TRAUMA-RECOVERY SERVICES WHILE SUPPORTING THEIR PROGRESS GOAL TO LIVE A VIOLENT-FREE AND SELF-SUSTAINABLE LIFE. IN 2021, NEWHOUSE ACCOMPLISHED THE FOLLOWING: (1) RENOVATED OUR RESIDENT ROOMS AND RESTROOMS, EARLY LEARNING CENTER, AND ADMINISTRATIVE AREA, ALONG WITH NEW PAINT AND FLOORING THROUGHOUT THE SHELTER, (2) ENHANCED CAMPUS SECURITY SYSTEM, (3) SOLIDIFIED OUR NEW ORGANIZATIONAL STAFFING STRUCTURE, (4) EXPERIENCED 159% INCREASE IN ENGAGEMENT AND A 25% INCREASE IN FOLLOWERS ACROSS ALL ACTIVE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS, (5) RECEIVED LOCAL AND NATIONAL AWARDS FOR MARKETING, SOCIAL MEDIA AND AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS, (6) EXPANDED COMMUNITY AWARENESS + MARKET PENETRATION, (7) IMPROVED FINANCIAL + DATA INTEGRITY, (8) GAINED 713 NEW DONORS, AND (9) SECURED 55 NEW DONORS WHO PLEDGED TO GIVE MONTHLY.


THE CHILDREN'S EDUCATION AND THERAPEUTIC CENTER PROVIDES AGE-APPROPRIATE, TRAUMA-INFORMED THERAPEUTICS AND ACTIVITIES TO HELP CHILDREN RECOVER FROM TRAUMA, BUILD RESILIENCY, AND ENHANCE THEIR LEARNING SKILLS. THE CETC SUPPORTS CHILDREN FROM AGE NEWBORN TO 18. TWO FULL-TIME CHILDREN'S THERAPISTS EMPLOY EVIDENCE AND RESEARCH-BASED PRACTICES DURING INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP THERAPY SESSION, ALONG WITH PARENTING SESSIONS THAT ARE UNIQUE TO EACH INDIVIDUAL'S TRAUMA RECOVERY NEEDS. THE DIRECTOR OF CETC, A CERTIFIED TEACHER, ALSO OVERSEES THE ON-SITE K-6 SCHOOL WITH INDIVIDUALIZED LESSONS PLANS TO EMBRACE THE CHILD'S STRENGTHS TO GROW ACADEMICALLY. IN OUR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION CENTER FOR BIRTH THROUGH AGE FIVE CHILDREN, WE EMPLOY TWO CHILDREN'S ADVOCATES TO PROVIDE CHILDCARE CENTERED AROUND SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING. ALL SERVICES ARE FREE TO THE FAMILIES ACCESSING OUR SERVICES. IN 2021, THE CHILDREN'S EDUCATION CENTER PROVIDED 5,016 UNITS OF SERVICE IN EDUCATION AND CHILDCARE SERVICES.
