THE COUNCIL'S PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE IS TO SUPPORT WORKERS FOR THE ECONOMIC, MORAL AND SOCIAL ADVANCEMENT OF THEIR CONDITION AND STATUS BY: COORDINATING THE ACTIVITIES OF ITS AFFILIATES INTO A COMPACT AND PRACTICAL WORKING CENTRAL ORGANIZATION; PROMOTING THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF ALL BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION TRADESMEN ON TRADITIONAL TRADE OR CRAFT LINES; DEVELOPING APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING; PROMOTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF HEALTH AND SAFETY PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES; PROMOTING INDUSTRIAL PEACE AND DEVELOPING A MORE HARMONIOUS FEELING BETWEEN EMPLOYERS AND EMPLOYEES; ENGAGING IN RESEARCH, LEGAL AND PUBLIC RELATIONS ACTIVITIES APPROPRIATE FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE INTEREST OF AFFILIATED UNIONS. APPROXIMATELY 30,000 INDIVIDUAL UNION MEMBERS, FROM 49 LOCAL UNIONS, ORGANIZED INTO 10 REGIONAL COUNCILS, ARE REPRESENTED BY DELEGATES ON THE COUNCIL.
