OPERA FOR THE YOUNG HELD PERFORMANCES FOR STUDENTS & COMMUNITY MEMBERS THROUGHOUT THE MIDWEST DURING THE 2020-21 SEASON TO FURTHER ITS MISSION TO IGNITE ENTHUSIASM FOR OPERA.

OPERA FOR THE YOUNG BRINGS LIVE, PROFESSIONAL OPERA TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AUDIENCES WITH ANNUAL FALL AND SPRING TOURS. STUDENTS APPEAR ONSTAGE IN CHORUS AND CAMEO ROLES, PERFORMING FOR THEIR PEERS ALONGSIDE PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS. ALL PRODUCTIONS ARE FULLY STAGED, SUNG IN ENGLISH, AND ADAPTED ESPECIALLY FOR KIDS EACH YEAR. OPERA FOR THE YOUNG REACHES OVER 75,000 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN THROUGHOUT THE MIDWEST TO IGNITE AN ENTHUSIASM FOR OPERA. DURING THE 2020-21 SEASON, OPERA FOR THE YOUNG PROVIDED 75 PERFORMANCES INCLUDING FAMILY OPERA DAY. IN ADDITION TO IN-PERSON PERFORMANCES, THERE WERE 13 PAID VIRTUAL SERVICES AND 57 FREE VIRTUAL SERVICES, REACHING AN ADDITIONAL 70 SCHOOL COMMUNITIES. OPERA FOR THE YOUNG ALSO HOLDS AN ANNUAL SET AND COSTUME DESIGN CONTEST WHERE STUDENTS SUBMIT DRAWINGS FOR PRE-SELECTED ELEMENTS OF THE UPCOMING PRODUCTION'S SETS AND COSTUMES.
