SUPPORT THE PUBLIC EDUCATION STUDENT BODY; FUND PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS WHICH ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY AND REWARD STUDENT CENTERED INNOVATION IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

SUMMER MUSICAL PRODUCTION-SINCE 1989, THE FOUNDATION HAS PROVIDED FUNDING FOR AN AREA-WIDE HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER MUSICAL PRODUCTION. THIS SUMMER-SCHOOL CURRICULUM OFFERS STUDENTS A HANDS ON LEARNING EXPERIENCE THAT PROVIDES THE COMMUNITY WITH A MAJOR MUSICAL THEATRE PRODUCTION. IT SHOWCASES THE TALENTS OF AREA STUDENTS WHILE HELPING THEM DEVELOP THEIR SKILLS IN A PROFESSIONAL SETTING. MORE THAN 70 STUDENTS LEARN LEADERSHIP, TEAM BUILDING, NETWORKING RESPONSIBILITY, COOPERATION AND THEATRICAL SKILLS DURING THE DESIGN, PRACTICE, PRODUCTION AND PRESENTATION PHASE OF THE SUMMER MUSICAL. AUDIENCES OF APPROXIMATELY 5000 ATTEND.


EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION GRANTS ARE AWARDED EACH FALL PROVIDING UP TO 1,000 IN CURRICULUM SUPPORT FOR CLASSROOM OR SCHOOL-WIDE PROJECTS. FOURTEEN SCHOOLS ARE REPRESENTED REACHING APPROXIMATELY 2,800 STUDENTS.


CLASSROOM ENRICHMENT GRANTS REPRESENT THE COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS OF THE ROTARY FOUNDATION OF EVANSVILLE, ROTARY CLUB, LOVE FOUNDATION AND PUBLIC EDUCATION FOUNDATION. CROSS-DISCIPLINARY OR MULTIPLE CLASSROOM COLLABORATION AS WELL AS TRADITIONAL CLASSROOM ENRICHMENT GRANTS PROVIDE FUNDS FOR MANY TEACHERS' INNOVATIVE CLASSROOM PROGRAMS THAT WOULD NOT OTHERWISE BE FUNDED (MATH, LANGUAGE ARTS, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, PHYSICAL FITNESS, MUSIC AND VISUAL ARTS ARE ALL AREAS SUPPORTED BY THESE GRANTS.) TWENTY-NINE SCHOOLS BENEFIT NEARLY 10,000 STUDENTS.


TEACHER STUDY GRANTS HAVE BEEN AWARDED FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES. ONCE COMPLETED THE INDIVIDUALS WILL SHARE THE INFORMATION WITH OTHERS THROUGHOUT THE EVANSVILLE VANDERBURGH SCHOOL CORPORATION. ACADEMIC SUPERBOWL-TEAMS OF STUDENTS FROM ALL 15 EVANSVILLE VANDERBURGH SCHOOL CORPORATION, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS, ARE SUPPORTED BY THE FOUNDATION SO THEY MAY COMPETE ANNUALLY IN AREAS OF FINE ARTS, MATH, LANGUAGE ARTS, SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES AT THE CITY, REGIONAL, AND STATE LEVEL. CHILDREN'S THEATRE PRODUCTIONS PROVIDE WEEKLONG AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS FOR UP TO SEVENTY-FIVE ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS. THEY PARTICIPATE IN ORIGINAL MUSICAL ADAPTATIONS OF A CHILDREN'S FAIRY TALE. STUDENTS AUDITION, REHEARSE WITH CAST AND CREW AND PROVIDE TWO PERFORMANCE ON SATURDAY. ACADEMIC TEAM ASSISTANCE-FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS PROVIDED FOR STUDENT ACADEMIC TEAMS WHO QUALIFY AT THE STATE AND/OR NATIONAL LEVEL IN COMPETITIONS. MIDDLE SCHOOL SPEECH-EACH FALL THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES STUDENTS FROM ALL TEN EVSC MIDDLE SCHOOLS THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMPETE IN VARIOUS AREAS OF SPEECH. THESE AREAS INCLUDE POETRY, PROSE, INTERPRETATION, ORIGINAL ORATORY, AND DUO INTERPRETATION UNSCRIPTED. SUSTAINABILITY GRANTS TO SUPPOR PROJECTS WHICH INCREASE CLASSROOM LEARNING IN THE FIELDS OF ENERGY CONSERVATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP. PRIORITY IS GIVEN TO PROJECTS THAT DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO SUSTAIN THEMSELVES BEYOND A SINGLE SCHOOL YEAR.
