THE NHC MAINTAINS AND PROVIDES THE FUNDING TO CARE FOR A CORE BREEDING HERD OF RARE NOKOTA HORSES. DURING THE TAX YEAR 2021, THE HERD WAS NUMBERED AT 74, WITH 11 FOALS PRODUCED MID-YEAR. THE NHC WAS ABLE TO PRESENT EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE PUBLIC TO LEARN ABOUT NOKOTA HORSES AND PROMOTE THE NON-PROFIT MISSION AT THREE MAJOR EVENTS IN MN, PA AND MA.


DESPITE COVID THE NHC WAS ABLE TO PRESENT EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE PUBLIC TO LEARN ABOUT NOKOTA HORSES AND PROMOTE THE NON-PROFIT MISSION AT THREE MAJOR EVENTS IN MN, PA AND MA.


A MAJOR GENETIC STUDY HAS BEEN UNDERTAKEN WITH CORNELL UNIVERSITY TO INVESTIGATE THE GENETIC LINEAGE OF THE NOKOTA HORSE.


THE NHC MAINTAINS AND PROVIDES THE FUNDING TO CARE FOR A CORE BREEDING HERD OF RARE NOKOTA HORSES. IN 2022 THE NHC ACQUIRED 20 ADULT HORSES FROM THE KUNTZ PRIVATE HOLDINGS. THE HERD MAINTAINED IN LINTON, ND CURRENTLY STANDS AT 100. THE NHC CONTINUES TO PRESENT EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE PUBLIC AT EQUINE EXPOSITIONS IN MN, PA, MA AND A WEEK-LONG CLINIC EXPERIENCE IN ND.


A MAJOR GENETIC STUDY WAS INITIATED IN 2021 BY RESEARCHERS AT CORNELL UNIVERSITY. IN 2022, THE CORNELL STUDY TEAM PRESENTED THE FIRST STAGE OF RESULTS AT A PRESTIGIOUS CONFERENCE, THE INTERNATIONAL HAVE MEYER HORSE GENOME WORKSHOP, HELD AT CORNELL UNIVERSITY, BAKER INSTITUTE FOR ANIMAL HEALTH. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT FINDING POINTS TOWARD THE NOKOTA HORSE POSSESSING A GENETIC PROFILE DISTINCTLY DIFFERENT THAN OTHER KNOWN BREEDS.
