BERKSHIRE ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION TEAM (BEAT) IS A 501(C)3 NON-PROFIT. WE PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT FOR WILDLIFE IN SUPPORT OF THE NATURAL WORLD THAT SUSTAINS US ALL. BEAT HAS THREE MAJOR FOCAL AREAS: STEWARDSHIP, EDUCATION & OUTREACH, AND WATCHDOGGING.

FOR THE YEAR ENDED DECEMBER 31, 2021 THE ORGANIZATION OPERATED THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS:ENVIRONMENTAL WATCHDOGGING: NO FRACKED GAS IN MASS & POLLUTION WATCH - WE WORKED WITH HUNDREDS OF ACTIVISTS TO STOP FRACKED "NATURAL" GAS INFRASTRUCTURE AND PROMOTE CLEAN ENERGY ALTERNATIVES, RESPONDED TO CONSTITUENT COMPLAINTS OF POSSIBLE ENVIRONMENTAL HARM, INVESTIGATED AND REPORTED RESULTS.ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP: WE USUALLY INVOLVE HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS IN THIS WORK. PROJECTS INCLUDE: WILDLIFE TRACKING AND HABITAT MONITORING, ROAD/STREAM CROSSING ASSESSMENT, RIVER AND PARK CLEANUPS, INVASIVE SPECIES MAPPING AND REMOVAL, STORMWATER PIPE OUTFALL SURVEYING AND WATER QUALITY TESTING.ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND OUTREACH: FREE, WEEKLY E-NEWSLETTER WITH ENVIRONMENTAL NEWS, CALENDAR OF EVENTS, AND PUBLIC NOTICES; EXTENSIVE EDUCATIONAL WEBSITE "THEBEATNEWS.ORGX; MONTHLY COMMUNITY GATHERINGS (GREEN DRINKS); EDUCATIONAL EVENTS, HIKES, PRESENTATIONS, ETC.NORTHEAST WILDLIFE TRACKERS - THE MISSION IS TO CONVENE, NETWORK, MOTIVATE AND INSPIRE WILDLIFE TRACKERS ACROSS THE NORTHEAST. THERE IS NO "AWAY." WE ADVOCATE FOR STRONGER REGULATIONS TO MOVE US TOWARD ZERO WASTE. WE HELP PEOPLE REDUCE, REUSE AND IF NECESSARY, RECYCLE. WE HELP BUSINESSES RECYCLE THEIR UNWANTED MATERIALS.
