CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM: THE HEAVY RELIANCE ON THE USE OF JAILS IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM HAS CREATED SIGNIFICANT CHALLENGES THAT ARE WIDESPREAD AND ARE BECOMING INCREASINGLY RECOGNIZED AS THE COUNTRY AIMS TO MAKE NEEDED CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORMS. APA HAS WORKED WITH OFFICES THROUGHOUT THE NATION TO INCREASE THE USE OF ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMS TO INCARCERATION, ENGAGE WITH THEIR COMMUNITIES, FOCUS ON RACIAL EQUITY, MITIGATE UNNECESSARY COLLATERAL CONSEQUENCES, AND INCREASE THE USE OF DATA TO INFORM DECISIONS AND INCREASE TRANSPARENCY.


INNOVATIVE PROSECUTIONS: THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE PROSECUTORIAL LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE IN AN EFFORT TO ASSIST JURISDICTIONS WITH THE IDENTIFICATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF INNOVATIVE PROSECUTORIAL PRACTICES WHICH ARE BRINGING ABOUT A MORE EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM.


CAPITAL LITIGATION: THIS PROGRAM ASSISTS PROSECUTORS TO ENHANCE THEIR EFFECTIVENESS IN REPRESENTING THE PUBLIC IN STATE CAPITAL CASES BY PROVIDING COMPREHENSIVE CAPITAL CASE LITIGATION TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE SERVICES, TOOLS, AND RESOURCES TO STATE AND LOCAL PROSECUTORS AND OTHER CRIMINAL JUSTICE PRACTITIONERS. IN ADDITION, THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES COORDINATION WITH DEFENDERS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LEGAL REPRESENTATION FOR INDIGENT DEFENDANTS IN STATE CAPITAL CASES.
