THE MISSION OF THE EVERHART MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY, SCIENCE, AND ART IS TO FOSTER KNOWLEDGE AND ENJOYMENT OF NATURAL HISTORY, SCIENCE, ART, AND CULTURE THROUGH A VARIETY OF EXHIBITIONS, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, AND EVENTS FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES AND BACKGROUNDS THROUGHOUT NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA. THE MUSEUM CARES FOR THE EXTENSIVE COLLECTIONS ENTRUSTED TO IT TO PRESERVE THE REGION'S CULTURAL AND NATURAL HERITAGE AS WELL AS TO DOCUMENT CULTURES AND NATURAL OBJECTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD, FACILITATING A DEEPER CONNECTION BETWEEN THE COMMUNITY AND THE WORLD AROUND THEM.

DURING 2021 WHILE STILL UNDER COVID RESTRICTIONS, THE MUSEUM PRESENTED FIVE TEMPORARY EXHIBITIONS TO THE PUBLIC: (1) THE SCHOLASTIC ART GOLD KEY EXHIBITION, A SHOWCASE OF THE BEST ARTWORK OF THE NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA REGION'S HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS; (2) AWAY FROM HOME, A TRAVELING EXHIBITION WHICH EXPLORED OFF-RESERVATION NATIVE AMERICAN BOARDING SCHOOLS THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHS, ARTWORK, INTERVIEWS, INTERACTIVE TIMELINES, AND IMMERSIVE ENVIRONMENTS, INCLUDING CLASSROOM AND DORMITORY SETTINGS; (3) EVERHART RETROSPECTIVE, AN ON-GOING EXHIBITION SHOWCASING REPRODUCTIONS OF HISTORIC PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE EVERHART MUSEUM THROUGHOUT ITS HISTORY; (4) BOLD INDEPENDENCE: AFRICAN AMERICAN QUILTS FROM THE COLLECTION OF DAVID WHALEY, AN EXHIBITION FEATURING QUILTS MADE DURING THE SECOND HALF OF THE 20TH CENTURY BY NINE AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN FROM ALABAMA AND MISSISSIPPI; AND (5) EVERY STITCH COUNTS: WORKS FROM THE SOCIAL JUSTICE SEWING ACADEMY, A SHOWCASE OF QUILTS HIGHLIGHTING SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUES CREATED BY YOUNG PEOPLE FROM ACROSS THE UNITED STATES.OPEN TO THE PUBLIC THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, THE EVERHART MUSEUM ALSO PROVIDED GUIDED TOURS OF ITS PERMANENT AND TEMPORARY EXHIBITIONS, HOSTED AN ART IN BLOOM COMMUNITY DAY EVENT, HELD ON-SITE AND VIRTUAL SUMMER CAMP, FACILITATED AND HOSTED THE SCHOLASTIC ART AWARDS FOR THE NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA REGION, HOSTED TWO LIGHT ON CULTURE COMMUNITY DAY EVENTS WITH ROSTERED PCA ARTISTS FRANK LITTLEBEAR AND BONGA GASTON JEAN-BAPTISTE, CREATED A SECOND SUNDAY SERIES TO PROMOTE ROSTERED PCA FOLK ARTISTS, HOSTED MINIS AND JUNIORS ART-MAKING CLASS, CURATED EDUCATIONAL BOXES FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS PERTAINING TO THE MUSEUM'S PERMANENT COLLECTIONS, CREATED AN INTERNSHIP PROGRAM WITH LOCAL UNIVERSITIES, AND CREATED OUTREACH PROGRAMS WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS, SUCH AS LIBRARIES THROUGHOUT THE REGION.
