PROGRAMS TO OVERCOME POVERTY AND INJUSTICE: OXFAM WORKS FOR LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS TO CHANGE SYSTEMS OF INEQUALITY THAT ARE AT THE ROOT OF POVERTY AND INJUSTICE. WE PROVIDE GRANTS, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND WORK ALONGSIDE LOCAL PARTNERS FIGHTING TO BUILD FAIR ECONOMIES, PROTECT LAND AND WATER RIGHTS, CREATE EQUITABLE AND SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS, AND ADVANCE THE RIGHTS AND LEADERSHIP OF WOMEN AND GIRLS. IN EL SALVADOR AND GUATEMALA, WE HELPED FARMING FAMILIES REDUCE THE RISK OF ECONOMIC DISASTER DUE TO CLIMATE CHANGE BY HELPING THEM TO GENERATE ALTERNATE SOURCES OF INCOME TO FARMING. THROUGH OUR WORK WITH PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS, WE HAVE HELPED FAMILIES ACCESS BEEKEEPING PROJECTS AND TRAINED YOUNG PEOPLE IN VOCATIONAL SKILLS SUCH AS BAKING, COSMETOLOGY, CELL PHONE REPAIR, AND MOTORCYCLE MAINTENANCE. THESE SKILLS ENABLE FAMILIES TO DEVELOP ALTERNATE SOURCES OF INCOME TO FARMING AND STAY AFLOAT IN YEARS WHEN CROPS FAIL.


SAVING LIVES EMERGENCY RESPONSE AND PREPAREDNESS: OXFAM WORKS WITH LOCAL PARTNERS AND GOVERNMENTS TO SAVE LIVES IN EMERGENCIES. WHEN THE DELTA VARIANT BROKE OUT IN INDIA IN APRIL AND MAY 2021, OXFAM BUILT SEVEN OXYGEN GENERATING PLANTS AND DISTRIBUTED MORE THAN 13,000 PIECES OF LIFESAVING MEDICAL EQUIPMENT SUCH AS OXYGEN CYLINDERS, OXYGEN CONCENTRATORS, VENTILATORS; MORE THAN 116,000 SAFETY AND PERSONAL PROTECTION KITS; 9,929 PIECES OF DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT SUCH AS THERMOMETERS AND OXIMETERS; AND 20,000 TESTING KITS IN 16 STATES. WE REACHED 479 HOSPITALS AND OTHER HEALTH FACILITIES. OXFAM PROVIDED PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT, DIGITAL THERMOMETERS, AND OXYGEN METERS TO 64,900 COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS IN NINE STATES. WE ALSO RESPONDED TO THE HUNGER CRISIS IN EAST AFRICA CAUSED BY COVID-19, CLIMATE CHANGE, AND CONFLICT. WE WORKED WITH LOCAL HUMANITARIAN GROUPS IN ETHIOPIA, SOUTH SUDAN, KENYA, AND SOMALIA TO DELIVER EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE AND ADDRESS THE UNDERLYING CAUSES OF HUNGER. IN SOUTH SUDAN, OXFAM IS HELPING TO DISTRIBUTE SEEDS, TOOLS, AND FISHING EQUIPMENT, AND IS DISTRIBUTING CASH TO 3,300 HOUSEHOLDS. IN KENYA, WE'VE DISTRIBUTED CASH TO 40,000 PEOPLE, REPAIRED WELLS, AND PROMOTED GOOD HYGIENE TO HELP PEOPLE PREVENT COVID-19 AND OTHER DISEASES.


CAMPAIGNING FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE: OXFAM CAMPAIGNS TO CHANGE UNJUST POLICIES THAT DEEPEN INEQUALITY AND KEEP PEOPLE TRAPPED IN POVERTY. WE FIGHT FOR EQUALITY, CLIMATE JUSTICE, GENDER JUSTICE, SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS, AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN EMERGENCY RESPONSE. WE CHALLENGE GOVERNMENTS, MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS, AND INTERNATIONAL ACTORS TO USE THEIR POWER TO IMPROVE PEOPLES' LIVES AND TO SHIFT POWER TO LOCAL AND COMMUNITY ACTORS. LAST YEAR OXFAM CONTINUED ITS CONVENING ROLE IN THE PEOPLE'S VACCINE ALLIANCE BRINGING TOGETHER DOZENS OF CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS TO FIGHT FOR A FREE, FAIR, AND ACCESSIBLE COVID-19 VACCINE. THROUGH COLLECTIVE ACTION, WE WERE ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY URGE THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT TO SUPPORT A WAIVER OF WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RULES TO MAKE THE VACCINE MORE ACCESSIBLE FOR THOSE MOST IN NEED.
