TO MAINTAIN AND OPERATE A LIBRARY AND MUSEUM FOR THE USE OF FREEMASONS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC CONSISTING OF AND DISPLAYING ITEMS RELATED TO FREEMASONRY.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
MAINTAINED AND OPERATED THE MASONIC MUSEUM AND TEMPLE AT AN ANNUAL OPERATING COST OF APPROXIMATELY 2.3 MILLION IN 2021. THE MASONIC MUSEUM AND TEMPLE IS A REGISTERED NATIONAL HISTORICAL LANDMARK BUILT IN 1868 AND COVERS APPROXIMATELY 80,000 SQUARE FEET. IT CONTAINS SEVEN LODGE HALLS, EACH DONE IN A DIFFERENT HISTORICAL ARCHITECTURAL STYLE. THE MASONIC LIBRARY AND MUSEUM OF PENNSYLVANIA HOUSES OVER 135,000 OBJECTS AND SERVES AS A POPULAR RESOURCE FOR RESEARCH AND REFERENCE CONCERNING MASONIC HISTORY. THE MUSEUM COLLECTION INCLUDES OVER 30,000 ITEMS. THE LIBRARY HOUSES OVER 75,000 VOLUMES AND AN ADDITIONAL 30,000 DOCUMENTS AND MANUSCRIPTS. THE MUSEUM ACTIVELY COLLECTS ART AND ARTIFACTS OF HISTORICAL INTEREST, WHILE PRESENTING DISPLAYS AND MANAGING EXHIBITS THAT ENRICH A SENSE OF MASONIC HISTORY. THE DISPLAYS IN THE MUSEUM ARE CHANGED ON A PERIODIC BASIS TO HIGHLIGHT THE COLLECTION OF ARTIFACTS AND DOCUMENTS. MAINTAINED AND OPERATED THE CIRCULATING LIBRARY OF BOOKS AND PERIODICALS AT THE MASONIC TEMPLE. WE ADDED 61 BOOKS TO THE LIBRARY AND CIRCULATED 82 BOOKS. LIBRARY STAFF RESPONDED TO 340 INQUIRIES FROM VARIOUS RESEARCHERS AND CATALOGUED 3,127 MANUSCRIPTS/BLUE PRINTS/MINUTE BOOKS. CONDUCTED TOURS OF THE MASONIC TEMPLE FOR OVER 6,339 VISITORS. THE MASONIC TEMPLE WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FIVE DAYS A WEEK THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THERE WERE INTERMITTENT TIMES THAT THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA IMPLEMENTED COVID RESTRICTIONS WHICH MAY HAVE IMPACTED OUR PUBLIC TOURS. THE MUSEUM TEAM PICKED UP THE PRESERVED GEORGE MIFFLIN DAGUERREOTYPE, THE GRAND ORIENT OF FRANCE BOYER CHARTER, C. 1774, THE SCOTTISH RITE DOCUMENT/CHARTER CN1764 AND A LAND DEED SIGNED BY BENJAMIN FRANKLIN. THE MUSEUM ALSO SENT OUT A GEORGE WASHINGTON LETTER TO THE GRAND LODGE C. 1792 AND AN APRON FOR THE LODGE ON THE ELIZABETHTOWN CAMPUS. THE MASONIC EDUCATION COMMITTEE OFFERED ONLINE COURSES IN MASONIC LAW, MENTOR PROGRAM, AND MASONIC HISTORY ALONG WITH REGIONAL WORKSHOPS ON MASONIC EDUCATION. CONTINUED THE SPEAKER SERIES THAT IS BOTH LIVE AT THE MASONIC TEMPLE AND BROADCAST IN REAL-TIME TO REGISTERED VISITORS. ADDITIONALLY, GARNERED A 238% INCREASE IN VIEWS ON THE MASONIC TEMPLES YOUTUBE PAGE DURING 2021. THE ONE NORTH BROAD (ONE) VENUE HOSTED 53 CANDLELIGHT CONCERTS, 32 SOCIAL EVENTS,7 MASONIC EVENTS, 5 CORPORATE EVENTS, AND 3 PHOTO SHOOTS
