CENTER IN THE PARK PROMOTES POSITIVE AGING AND FOSTERS COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS FOR OLDER ADULTS WHOSE VOICES ARE CRITICAL INSTRUMENTS IN SHAPING ITS ACTIVITIES AND DIRECTION

HOUSING, SOCIAL SERVICES, AND IN-HOME SUPPORT. THE CENTER OFFERS PRACTICAL AND COMPASSIONATE SOCIAL SERVICES AND HOUSING COUNSELING FOR VULNERABLE OLDER ADULTS INCLUDING ASSISTANCE WITH PERSONAL CARE, HOME SUPPORT, ADAPTIVE EQUIPMENT AND MINOR HOME REPAIRS FOR THE HOMEBOUND, ASSISTANCE APPLYING FOR BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS, AND HOUSING COUNSELING FOR OLDER ADULTS WITH HOUSING ISSUES SUCH AS MORTGAGE DEFAULT AND DELINQUENCY, LANDLORD/TENANT DISPUTES, AND ASSISTANCE IN FINDING AFFORDABLE SENIOR HOUSING. IN ADDITION, THE CENTER IS A NEIGHBORHOOD ENERGY CENTER, PROVIDING ENERGY ASSISTANCE AND CONSERVATION EDUCATION FOR PERSONS OF ALL AGES.


CENTER SERVICES: THE CENTER OFFERS AN EXTENSIVE LIFELONG LEARNING CURRICULUM, A VIBRANT ARTS AND HUMANITIES PROGRAM AND TRIP OPPORTUNITIES. PROGRAMS AND SERVICES OFFERED INCLUDE COMPUTER CLASSES, PAINTING, DRAWING, POTTERY, QUILTING, KNITTING AND CROCHETING, NEEDLE ARTS, RUBBER STAMPING, PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY, BOWLING, TAP DANCING, LINE DANCING, PIANO LESSONS, GUITAR CLASSES, POETRY, MEMOIR WRITING AND MANY OTHER OFFERINGS SUCH AS TRIPS AND OTHER RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES.


NUTRITION AND MEALS - APPROXIMATELY 100 OLDER ADULTS PER DAY ARE SERVED A HOT, NUTRITIOUS, WELL-BALANCED MEAL AT NO COST TO INDIVIDUALS OVER THE AGE OF 60 AND AT A MODEST COST TO THOSE UNDER 60.


INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:LONG TERM CARE OMBUDSMAN: THE CENTER THROUGH PHILADELPHIA CORPORATION FOR AGING'S PHILADELPHIA LONG TERM CARE OMNBUDSMAN PROGRAM PROVIDES OMBUDSMAN SERVICES FOR RESIDENTS OF LONG TERM CARE IN NORTHWEST AND NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA, INCLUDING: ADVOCATES FOR THE RIGHTS AND QUALITY OF LIFE OF RESIDENTS WHO RESIDE IN NURSING FACILITIES, PERSONAL CARE BOARDING HOMES, DOMICILIARY CARE, RESIDENT CARE AND OLDER ADULT LIVING CENTERS. ADDRESSES ISSUES OF RESIDENT RIGHTS, RESIDENT CARE, RESIDENT DIGNITY, FINANCES AND OVERALL QUALITY OF LIFE. CONDUCTS FACILITY VISITS, ATTENDS RESIDENT COUNCIL MEETINGS AND/OR EXIT MEETINGS WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND RECEIVES COMPLAINTS FROM RESIDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. HEALTH AND EVIDENCE - THROUGH COLLABORATIVE ACADEMIC PARTNERSHIPS, THE CENTER HAS ESTABLISHED ITSELF AS A LIVING LABORATORY FOR COMMUNITY BASED RESEARCH. THIS RESEARCH HAS LARGER IMPLICATIONS FOR SENIOR CENTERS LOCALLY AND NATIONALLY, THROUGH DEVELOPMENT OF EVIDENCE-BASED PROGRAMS THAT MAY BE REPLICATED AND/OR ADAPTED TO MEET THE CULTURALLY DIVERSE NEEDS OF OLDER ADULTS.
