AS MAINE'S ONLY STATE-WIDE IMMIGRATION LEGAL SERVICES ORGANIZATION, ILAP ADVANCES JUSTICE AND EQUITY FOR IMMIGRANTS AND THEIR FAMILIES THROUGH DIRECT LEGAL SERVICES, COMMUNITY EDUCATION, AND SYSTEMIC ADVOCACY.

DIRECT LEGAL SERVICES: ILAP OFFERS A RANGE OF DIRECT LEGAL SERVICES IN RESPONSE TO COMMUNITY NEEDS, INCLUDING FULL REPRESENTATION, BRIEF INTERVENTION, CONSULTATIONS, AND APPLICATION ASSISTANCE. IN 2021, WE PROVIDED FULL REPRESENTATION TO 450 PEOPLE AND LIMITED REPRESENTATION TO 1,080 PEOPLE. WE MAINTAINED AN APPROVAL RATE GREATER THAN 98% FOR FULL REPRESENTATION CASES THAT RECEIVED A FINAL DECISION. IN ADDITION, 175+ PRO BONO ATTORNEYS DONATED 4,000 HOURS OF THEIR TIME AT A VALUE OF NEARLY 1 MILLION.


COMMUNITY EDUCATION: ILAP PROVIDES ACCURATE AND ACCESSIBLE INFORMATION ON COMPLEX LEGAL ISSUES IN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES FOR IMMIGRANT COMMUNITY MEMBERS, GROUPS, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS ACROSS THE STATE. IN 2021, WE HOSTED 83 IN- PERSON OR VIRTUAL OUTREACH EVENTS ATTENDED BY 1,666 INDIVIDUALS. WE ALSO EXPANDED THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND SELF-HELP TOOLS AVAILABLE ON OUR WEBSITE, WHICH HAD 70,000 UNIQUE PAGE VIEWS BY 28,000 VISITORS.


SYSTEMIC ADVOCACY: ILAP COLLABORATES WITH IMMIGRANT-LED GROUPS, PARTNERS IN MAINE'S IMMIGRANT JUSTICE MOVEMENT, AND REGIONAL AND NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS TO SAFEGUARD AND PROMOTE LEGAL PROTECTIONS FOR THE STATE'S IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES. IN 2021, WE SERVED AS A SOURCE OF ACCURATE INFORMATION FOR THE MEDIA ON 71 OCCASIONS, SUBMITTED 15 PUBLIC STATEMENTS OR TESTIMONIES, JOINED 40 SIGN-ON LETTERS, AND SHARED TIMELY POLICY AND ACTION UPDATES WITH THOUSANDS OF SUPPORTERS.
