Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

SCHEDULE OTHE BRIDGEPORT HOSPITAL FOUNDATION RECEIVED MORE THAN $5.6 MILLION IN PHILANTHROPIC GIFTS IN FY 2021. THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC LIMITED MANY ROUTINE FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES EARLY IN THE YEAR; HOWEVER, IN THE SPRING AND SUMMER OF 2021 BOTH THE ROSE OF HOPE LUMINARY EVENT AND THE KAULBACH MEMORIAL GOLF CLASSIC ALLOWED FOR LONG-AWAITED AND SUCCESSFUL IN-PERSON CONNECTIONS WITH DONORS.DONORS CONTRIBUTED MORE THAN $840,000 THROUGH WILLS AND ESTATES, A SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER FIGURE THAN IN RECENT YEARS. THE INCREASE REFLECTS THE STRONG AFFINITY THE COMMUNITY FEELS TOWARDS BRIDGEPORT HOSPITAL, WHICH HAS BEEN PROVIDING CARE TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES OF SOUTHWESTERN FAIRFIELD COUNTY FOR 138 YEARS.ONCE AGAIN, THE NORMA PFRIEM BREAST CENTER WAS THE MOST POPULAR DESIGNATION FOR DONORS. THE BREAST CENTER HOSTED ITS 20TH ANNUAL ROSE OF HOPE EVENT IN JUNE TO HONOR ITS MOST LOYAL AND GENEROUS SPONSORS. THE EVENT RAISED MORE THAN $450,000 AFTER EXPENSES TO SUPPORT PROGRAMS FOR UNDERSERVED WOMEN. ALSO IN OCTOBER, THE BREAST CENTER'S "PINK PLEDGE" INITIATIVE EXPANDED BEYOND FAIRFIELD TO RAISE FUNDS AND AWARENESS FOR BREAST CANCER IN BRIDGEPORT, STRATFORD, TRUMBULL AND MILFORD. DONORS CONTRIBUTED MORE THAN $170,000, MAINLY TO LOCAL BUSINESSES WHO IN TURN GAVE A PORTION OF THEIR SALES TO THIS GREAT CAUSE.DONORS ALSO GAVE MORE THAN $430,000 TO LAUNCH A NEW PREVENTIVE CARE PROGRAM IN THE HOSPITAL'S PRIMARY CARE CENTER (PCC). THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS TO ADDRESS HEALTH CARE DISPARITIES ESPECIALLY IN CANCER SCREENING. FOR EXAMPLE, THE STATE OF CT HAS A 75% COLORECTAL CANCER SCREENING RATE, WHILE THE PCC IS AT 48%. SIMILARLY FOR BREAST CANCER SCREENING, CT IS AT 84% AND THE PCC IS AT 59% AS EXTRACTED FROM CDC WEBSITE. PHILANTHROPIC GIFTS WILL SUPPORT SALARIES OF OUTREACH STAFF AND MEDICAL ASSISTANTS TO EMPHASIZE AND CLOSE THESE GAPS IN CARE FOR PCC PATIENTS, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO CHRONIC MEDICAL CONDITIONS AND FREQUENTLY THE VISIT THE HOSPITAL'S EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT.FINALLY, AFTER PAUSING A YEAR DUE TO COVID, THE KAULBACH MEMORIAL GOLF CLASSIC RETURNED IN SEPTEMBER TO CELEBRATE ITS 40TH ANNIVERSARY. MORE THAN 125 GOLFERS AND SPONSORS CONTRIBUTED MORE THAN $125,000 TO SUPPORT AN OUTPATIENT PALLIATIVE CARE CLINIC FOR PATIENTS LIVING WITH ADVANCED CANCER, AS WELL AS AN ONCOLOGY CHAPLAINCY PROGRAM.THE FOUNDATION ACHIEVED GUIDESTAR'S PLATINUM SEAL OF TRANSPARENCY IN 2021. GUIDESTAR GATHERS, ORGANIZES, AND DISTRIBUTES INFORMATION ABOUT MORE THAN 2.7 MILLION U.S. NONPROFITS. LAST YEAR, THERE WERE MORE THAN 10.8 MILLION UNIQUE VISITORS TO GUIDESTAR'S WEBSITE AS PEOPLE SOUGHT TRUSTWORTHY INFORMATION TO MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT NONPROFITS AND THE WORK THEY DO.THE FOUNDATION HAS ADVANCED BEYOND THE BRONZE, SILVER AND GOLD AWARDS BY ADDING IN-DEPTH FINANCIAL INFORMATION AND QUANTITATIVE METRICS ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY HEALTH INITIATIVES, AS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW OUR DONORS ARE IMPACTING THE PATIENTS SERVED BY BRIDGEPORT HOSPITAL.
