OUR MISSION IS TO PROMOTE THE PROTECTION AND ENHANCEMENT OF WATER QUALITY AND WATER RESOURCES IN THE GREAT LAKES. FRESHWATER FUTURE BUILDS EFFECTIVE COMMUNITY-BASED INITIATIVES TO PROTECT AND RESTORE THE WATER QUALITY OF THE GREAT LAKES BASIN.

THE GRANTS PROGRAM PROVIDES FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO ACTIVITIES THAT ACTIVELY PROMOTE RIVER, LAKE, WETLAND, GROUNDWATER AND DRINKING WATER PROTECTION. FIFTY-TWO GRANTS WERE AWARDED THROUGH FOUR FUNDING PROGRAMS. TYPICAL PROJECTS INCLUDED PROTECTING RIVER SHORELINES AND WETLANDS, COMMUNICATIONS, AND EDUCATING THE PUBLIC ON THE HEALTH RISKS OF LEAD IN DRINKING WATER.


PROVIDED GROUP AND INDIVIDUALIZED ONE-ON-ONE ASSISTANCE TO COMMUNITY-BASED GROUPS THROUGH PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT. ASSISTANCE INCLUDED BUILDING ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS TO OPERATE NONPROFIT 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATIONS, BUILDING KNOWLEDGE FOR LEGAL COMPLIANCE WITH REPORTING AND COVID-19 PREVENTION.


COORDINATED EDUCATION AND OUTREACH ON PUBLIC POLICY ISSUES OF REGIONAL AS WELL AS LOCAL IMPORTANCE TO THE GREAT LAKES. PROVIDED OPPORTUNITIES FOR RESIDENTS TO EDUCATE ELECTED OFFICIALS AND AGENCY STAFF ON NEED FOR WATER AFFORDABILITY PROGRAMS, NEED FOR PREVENTING AND REMEDIATING TOXICS, NEEDS FOR INFRASTRUCTURE FUNDING AND ENSURING LOCAL WORK PROGRAMS IN FEDERAL GRANTS.
