OUR STRATEGIES INCLUDE: TRAINING AND COACHING, FACILITATING COLLABORATIVE LEARNING, DEVELOPING FRAMEWORKS AND TOOLS, AND BUILDING CAPACITY FOR THE FUTURE.

DEVELOP FRAMEWORKS & TOOLS - FOS DEVELOPS INTELLECTUALLY RIGOROUS YET USER-FRIENDLY FRAMEWORKS AND TOOLS TO OVERCOME THE PRACTICAL HURDLES OF PLANNING AND MONITORING CONSERVATION PROJECTS. USING INSIGHTS GAINED FROM OUR EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH DIFFERENT TEAMS AND ACROSS DISCIPLINES, WE IDENTIFY THE INNOVATIONS AND ADAPTATIONS REQUIRED TO MAKE PROJECT MANAGEMENT BETTER AND EASIER. ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE:- PUBLISHED A PAPER IN CONSERVATION SCIENCE AND PRACTICE THAT SUMMARIZES AN FOS-SUPPORTED LEARNING GROUP'S GENERIC THEORY OF CHANGE FOR CONSERVATION ENTERPRISES HTTPS://DOI.ORG/10.1111/CSP2.582. THIS PAPER IS PART OF A SERIES IN RESPONSE TO OUR CALL FOR GENERIC THEORIES OF CHANGE EARLY THIS YEAR IN AN EDITORIAL IN THE SAME JOURNAL: HTTPS://DOI.ORG/10.1111/CSP2.400.- PUBLISHED "PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS: TAKING CONSERVATION TO SCALE IN COMPLEX SYSTEMS." THIS BOOK IS AN INNOVATIVE GUIDE TO BUILDING LARGE-SCALE TRANSFORMATIVE CONSERVATION PROGRAMS CAPABLE OF TACKLING THE COMPLEX AND DYNAMIC ISSUES THE CONSERVATION COMMUNITY FACES.- RELEASED MAJOR UPDATES TO MIRADI'S ONLINE PLATFORM, INCLUDING NEW ABILITIES AND ENHANCED FEATURES FOR ONLINE DIAGRAMMING AND TRACKING AND DASHBOARD-STYLE REPORTING OF PROJECT MONITORING.- CONCEPTUALIZED AND DEVELOPED DRAFT GUIDE FOR TAKING LIGHTER APPROACHES TO IMPLEMENTING THE CONSERVATION STANDARDS. THIS TOOL IS ONE OF THE COMMUNITY'S HIGHEST-PRIORITY TOOLS.


PROVIDE TRAINING AND COACHING - FOS HELPS CONSERVATION TEAMS DEFINE CLEAR CONSERVATION GOALS, PRIORITIZE STRATEGIES WITH THE GREATEST LIKELIHOOD OF SUCCESS, AND USE PRACTICAL TOOLS AND SYSTEMS TO SUPPORT THEIR CONSERVATION WORK. FOS PROVIDES TRAINING AND COACHING IN METHODS AND TOOLS SO THAT TEAMS CAN LEARN WHAT'S WORKING AND ADAPT ACCORDINGLY. BY SYSTEMATICALLY PLANNING AND MEASURING, CONSERVATION TEAMS CAN LEARN FROM THEIR SUCCESSES AND FAILURES AND USE RESOURCES MORE EFFICIENTLY. ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE:- SUPPORTED THE USFWS COMBATING WILDLIFE TRAFFICKING (CWT) BRANCH TEAM'S FIRST PAUSE & ADAPT WORK AS THEY REFLECTED ON THE BARRIERS THEY HAVE ENCOUNTERED IN THEIR SPECIES GRANT WORK. THE EFFORT RESULTED IN ACTIONABLE CHANGES FOR THE NEXT ROUND OF FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES AND MORE MEANINGFUL INDICATORS AND OBJECTIVES THAT THE TEAM WILL USE TO MEASURE THEIR SUCCESS.- HELPED OCEAN WISE REVISE ITS STRATEGIC PLAN FOR ITS EDUCATION PROGRAM, INCLUDING DEVELOPING AN IMPROVED SET OF IMPACT INDICATORS.- LED CONSERVATION INTERNATIONAL'S CENTER FOR OCEAN'S BLUE PRODUCTION TEAM IN DEVELOPING A MONITORING AND EVALUATION PROGRAM TO MEASURE PROGRESS ON THE CI OCEAN STAR SUB-GOAL: IMPROVED SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION PRACTICES IMPLEMENTED IN 20 CRITICAL FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE GEOGRAPHIES BY 2025.- HELPED USFWS DEVELOP MANAGEMENT OBJECTIVES AND IDENTIFY WHAT TEAMS SHOULD BE MEASURING TO ASSESS STATUS OF AND PROGRESS TOWARD THOSE MANAGEMENT OBJECTIVES FOR THE ARCTIC NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE.- HELPED THE WATER FOUNDATION AND ITS PARTNERS APPLY THE CONSERVATION STANDARDS TO DEVELOP AND TEST A LEARNING FRAMEWORK FOR THEIR STRATEGIES FOR GROUNDWATER MANAGEMENT.- SUPPORTED USAID AND THEIR PARTNERS IN CO-DESIGNING PROJECTS IN THE HEARTH PROGRAM.


FOSTER COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE - FOS CONVENES CONSERVATION PRACTITIONERS, DONORS, AND EDUCATORS IN VIBRANT LEARNING COMMUNITIES. FOS HELPS THESE COMMUNITIES DEVELOP AND PROMOTE COMMON FRAMEWORKS TO CATALYZE CROSS-PROJECT SHARING AND LEARNING. THE RESULT OF THIS COORDINATION IS IMPROVED CONSERVATION PRACTICES, THE ABILITY TO DEMONSTRATE COLLECTIVE IMPACT, AND INCREASED SOCIETAL SUPPORT FOR CONSERVATION. ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE:- CONTINUED TO PRODUCE SHORT VIDEOS HIGHLIGHTING THE EXPERIENCE OF CMP PARTNERS WORKING ACROSS VARYING CONTEXTS APPLYING THE CONSERVATION STANDARDS TO THEIR WORK. THE VIDEOS ARE READILY ACCESSIBLE ON THE CONSERVATION STANDARDS YOUTUBE CHANNEL.- CONTINUED TO SUPPORT CROSS-ORGANIZATIONAL LEARNING THROUGH THE CONSERVATION MEASURES PARTNERSHIP. 2021 THEMES COVERED A RANGE OF HIGH-PRIORITY CONSERVATION TOPICS, INCLUDING CLIMATE SMART CONSERVATION AND NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS.- PROVIDED TRAINING AND COMMUNITY EXCHANGE OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH BROADLY AVAILABLE WEBINARS, INCLUDING SEVERAL DURING THE 2021 ONLINE CONSERVATION COACHES NETWORK RALLY.


FOS PARTNERS WITH UNIVERSITIES AND CONSERVATION ORGANIZATIONS TO PREPARE TOMORROW'S LEADERS TO TACKLE GROWING CONSERVATION CHALLENGES.
