DEVELOP SUPERIOR PERENNIAL PLANTS WELL SUITED FOR THE CLIMATE AND SOILS OF THE INTERMOUNTAIN WEST. MORE THAN 65 ACRES ARE PLANTED TO FRUIT AND NUT TREES WHOSE GERMPLASM HAS BEEN COLLECTED FROM AROUND THE WORLD. ACTIVITIES IN 2015 INCLUDED CONTINUATION OF EVALUATING OVER 10,000 TREES FOR WINTER HARDINESS IN FIELD SITE TRIALS CONDUCTED AT THREE DIFFERENT LOCATIONS IN NORTHERN UTAH AND SOUTHEASTERN IDAHO. EVALUATION OF OVER 500 TREES FOR BLOOM TIME AND FOR FRUIT AND NUT QUALITY. THE PROJECT OF DEVELOPING A RELIABLE INOCULATION AND SCREENING PROTOCOL FOR SCREENING BLACK WALNUT TREES FOR RESISTANCE TO THOUSAND CANKER DISEASE WAS ALSO CONTINUED.
