EACH MONTH, SENIOR EMERGENCY MEAL BOXES ARE DELIVERED TO 24 CONVENIENT SITES IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY FOR IMPOVERISHED SENIORS TO ACCESS; 1,203 UNDUPLICATED SENIORS WERE SERVED IN 2015. EACH SENIOR EMERGENCY MEAL BOX CONTAINS 24 POUNDS OF SPECIALLY FORMULATED FOOD TO MAKE 21 EASILY PREPARED MEALS. THIS PROGRAM WAS ESTABLISHED AS A FOOD LIFELINE TO HELP SENIORS LIVING IN POVERTY TO SURVIVE BETWEEN SOCIAL SECURITY CHECKS.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION - PROVIDING INFORMATION TO THE COMMUNITY AS TO THE NUMBERS AND NEEDS OF 50,000 SENIORS LIVING IN POVERTY IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY. DEPOT PROVIDES ONGOING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR A CORPS MULTI-GENERATIONAL, MULTI-ETHNIC VOLUNTEERS TO ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY IN HELPING END SENIOR HUNGER IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY; IN 2015, VOLUNTEERS PROVIDED 3,766 MAN HOURS. THE DEPOT PROVIDES ONGOING DONOR OPPORTUNITIES TO END SENIOR HUNGER, FUNDING GRANTS, SPONSORSHIPS, SPECIAL EVENTS, FOOD DRIVES AND I.E., SPONSORING EMERGENCY MEAL BOXES FOR SENIORS.
SENIOR ADVOCACY - DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS, A MASTER'S LEVEL SOCIAL WORKER, PROVIDES ON CALL CASE MANAGEMENT INCLUDING WELFARE CALLS, ON AN AS-NEEDED BASIS, AND TRACKS DEMOGRAPHICS OF SENIORS SERVED TO PROVIDE INFO TO BETTER SERVE THEM. TO OVERCOME SENIOR AGING CHALLENGES, SENIORS RECEIVE A DEPOT WALL CALENDAR, MARKED WITH MONTHLY DATES THEY PICK UP THEIR MEAL BOXES. "DEPOT DISPATCH" SENIOR NEWSLETTER, TUCKED INTO MEAL BOXES, OFFERS HEALTHY LIVING & SAFETY TIPS, SUPERFOODS, SENIOR RESOURCE INFORMATION, CONTACT INFO AND MORE.
