Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

CALIFORNIA IMMIGRANT INTEGRATION INITIATIVE (CIII) AND DELIVERING ON THE DREAM (DOTD)AS IN YEARS PAST, CIII AND DOTD PROVIDED THE INFRASTRUCTURE FOR FUNDERS TO BE ON THE LEADING EDGE OF PHILANTHROPIC RESPONSES TO ADVERSE POLICIES AND OTHER CRISES. AS A COMPLEMENT TO RAPID RESPONSE WORK, GCIR ALSO ENGAGED CIII AND DOTD FUNDERS IN THINKING ABOUT LONGER-TERM ISSUES AND APPROACHING THEIR FUNDING FROM AN AFFIRMATIVE STANCE, FOCUSING ON WHAT THEY ENVISION FOR THEIR COMMUNITIES IN ADDITION TO ADDRESSING URGENT NEEDS.

CALIFORNIA DIGNITY FOR FAMILIES FUNDRESPONDING TO THE URGENT NEEDS OF MIGRANTS AT THE U.S.-MEXICO BORDER, GCIR LAUNCHED THE CALIFORNIA DIGNITY FOR FAMILIES FUND IN 2021 AS PART OF A PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP WITH GOVERNOR GAVIN NEWSOM. THE FUND RESOURCES ORGANIZATIONS THAT PROVIDE MIGRANTS WITH HUMANITARIAN RELIEF, ENSURE DUE PROCESS FOR ASYLUM SEEKERS, AND SUPPORT THEIR RESETTLEMENT IN COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE STATE. IN SEPTEMBER, THE FUND EXPANDED ITS PURPOSE TO INCLUDE SUPPORT FOR AFGHAN AND HAITIAN MIGRANTS. AS OF DECEMBER 2021, THE FUND HAD RAISED $10 MILLION FROM MORE THAN 20 FOUNDATIONS. THE FUND AWARDED GRANTS TO ORGANIZATIONS SERVING IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES OFTEN EXCLUDED FROM GRANTMAKING PRIORITIES, INCLUDING AFRICAN AMERICAN, INDIGENOUS, MUSLIM, LATINX, LGBTQIA+, WOMEN, YOUTH, PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES, AND UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS.

NATIONAL PROGRAMS GCIR CONTINUED TO ORGANIZE PROGRAMS TO KEEP PHILANTHROPY APPRISED OF POLICIES AND DEVELOPMENTS IMPACTING THE ABILITY OF IMMIGRANTS, REFUGEES, AND ASYLUM SEEKERS TO ENTER, LIVE, AND THRIVE IN THE UNITED STATES. THESE ISSUES INCLUDED DACA, THE POLICY SHIFTS OF A NEW ADMINISTRATION, HUMANITARIAN NEEDS AT THE BORDER, AFGHAN MIGRANT RESETTLEMENT, RACIAL JUSTICE, ANTI-AAPI HATE CRIMES, THE 2020 CENSUS, AND THE INTERSECTION OF MIGRATION WITH OTHER SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUES. IN UPLIFTING BOTH THE SHORT- AND LONG-TERM POLICY IMPLICATIONS, WE HELPED FUNDERS SEE HOW THEY CAN ADDRESS IMMEDIATE CRISES AND LAY THE GROUNDWORK FOR SYSTEMS AND STRUCTURAL CHANGE.
