THE MISSION OF DOWNTOWN LANGUAGES (DTL) IS TO INCREASE OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMMIGRANTS AND BUILD RESPECT AND UNDERSTANDING ACROSS CULTURES BY PROVIDING LANGUAGE, LITERACY, AND OTHER EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS.

Part 3

SPECIALIZED LANGUAGE CLASSES ARE OFFERED TO NON-NATIVE SPEAKERS WHO HAVE EMERGING LANGUAGE SKILLS. THE CLASSES HAVE SERVED AN AVERAGE OF 200 STUDENTS ANNUALLY.


PILAS: FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM: THE PROGRAM IS OFFERED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MIGRANT EDUCATION PROGRAM, SPRINGFIELD SCHOOL DISTRICT AND BETHEL SCHOOL DISTRICT. IT IS DESIGNED TO PROMOTE EARLY LITERACY AND LIFELONG LEARNING FOR SPANISH SPEAKING FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN UNDER AGE 13. THIS PROGRAM SERVES 500 PEOPLE ANNUALLY.


GED READINESS FOR NON-NATIVE SPEAKERS TO ACQUIRE SKILLS TO PASS THE GED EXAMINATIONS AND OBTAIN A DIPLOMA.
