ITS MISSION IS TO PROMOTE AND ENCOURAGE CULTURAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES THAT ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF AFRICAN DANCE, MUSIC, AND CULTURE. IT SEEKS TO CULTURALLY ENRICH AND ENLIGHTEN PEOPLE, PARTICULARLY YOUTH, ABOUT THE RICHNESS OF AFRICAN AND AFRICAN DIASPORA CULTURES.

CHIKU AWALI AFRICAN DANCE, ARTS & CULTURE, INC. CONDUCTED AFRICAN DANCE AND/OR DRUMMING CLASSES FOR 48 WEEKS DURING THE YEAR FOR 31 REGULAR STUDENTS RANGING IN AGE FROM THREE TO SIXTY-NINE AND FOR ABOUT 25 DROP-IN ONLINE STUDENTS. DUE TO COVID-19, SOME CLASSES WERE CONDUCTED ONLINE VIA ZOOM, AND BEGINNING IN SEPTEMBER IN-PERSON CLASSES RESUMED. CHIKU AWALI PERFORMED IN THE COMMUNITY FOR SCHOOLS AND VARIOUS CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS A TOTAL OF EIGHT TIMES.
CHIKU AWALI CONDUCTED 24 CULTURAL ENRICHMENT AND LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES AND WORKSHOPS FOR 27 YOUNG PEOPLE DURING THE YEAR. WORKSHOPS WERE GIVEN ON TEAM-BUILDING, MARRIAGE AND FAMILY, FINANCES, CONFLICT REDUCTION, GETTING PREPARED AND ACCEPTED TO COLLEGE, AND PUBLIC SPEAKING AT THE RITES OF PASSAGE. STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN STEM ACTIVITIES, COOKING, READING, AND PLAYING GAMES DURING THE MONTHLY EXCELLENCE CLUB MEETINGS.
DUE TO COVID-19, CHIKU AWALI MADE ONE FIELD TRIP. CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES VISITED THE INTREPID MUSEUM IN NEW YORK CITY.
