IN 2021 ABS CREATED THE DISABILITY UNITE (DU) MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL, A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NYC MAYOR'S OFFICE OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES (MOPD). WITH THE MOTTO FOR THE COMMUNITY, BY THE COMMUNITY, ATTENDANCE OF OVER 11,000 VIEWERS, AND 75+ DISABLED PERFORMING ARTISTS AND CULTURAL WORKERS PAID FOR THEIR WORK, THE DU FESTIVAL BRINGS AUDIENCES OF ALL AGES AND COMMUNITIES TOGETHER WITH A SINGLE PURPOSE: DISABILITY PRIDE. LAB FOR LEARNING IS A HANDS-ON, ARTS-AND-CULTURE-FOCUSED MULTIDISCIPLINARY EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM THAT BRINGS MULTIMODAL CURRICULA ADDRESSING THE DEVELOPMENT OF INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS THROUGH ENGAGEMENT IN THE ARTS TO STUDENTS.


ABS ART AND DISABILITY RESIDENCY IS AN ARTIST-CENTERED PROGRAM PROVIDING EMERGING DISABLED ARTISTS WITH THE PRACTICAL REAL-WORLD TOOLS THEY WILL NEED TO SUCCEED IN THE COMPETITIVE ART WORLD. THE PROGRAM GIVES THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOWCASE THEIR WORK, EXPLORE THEIR IDENTITIES IN RELATION TO DISABILITY IDENTITY AND CULTURE, AND CONTEXTUALIZE DISABILITY ARTS WITHIN CONTEMPORARY ART, AND IN THE DISCOURSE AROUND IDENTITY POLITICS IN THE ARTS.
