A LIBRARY AND MEETING PLACE THAT INVITES POETS AND THE PUBLIC INTO THE LIVING TRADITION OF POETRY, OFFERING POETRY BOOKS AND RESOURCES, LITERARY EVENTS AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS TO DOCUMENT THE DIVERSITY OF MODERN POETRY AND STIMULATE DIALOGUE ON ISSUES OF POETRY IN CULTURE.

POETS HOUSE LIBRARY AND SHOWCASE:THE POETS HOUSE LIBRARY IS AMONG THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE COLLECTIONS OF POETRY AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY. WHILE PRESENTLY CLOSED FOR FLOOD REPAIR, THE 70,000 VOLUME COLLECTION IS GENERALLY OPEN TO EVERYONE FREE OF CHARGE, IN OPEN STACKS. MULTIMEDIA RECORDINGS FROM 32 YEARS OF PAST POETS HOUSE EVENTS ARE AVAILABLE ON THE WEBSITE. DURING 2021 POETS HOUSE CONTINUED TO COLLECT AND CATALOG MATERIALS FOR ITS NEXT SHOWCASE, WHICH WILL BE AN EXHIBIT OF ALL THE NEW BOOKS OF POETRY PUBLISHED IN THE UNITED STATES SINCE 2020. LED BY INTERIM DIRECTOR CORENLIUS EADY, THE ORGANIZATION EMBARKED ON AN EXTENSIVE LISTENING CAMPAIGN WITH STAKEHOLDERS AND THE PUBLIC TO CHART THE FUTURE DIRECTION OF LIBRARY DIGITIZATION AND SERVICES. THROUGH PUBLISHER AND INDIVIDUAL DONATIONS, POETS HOUSE ADDED OVER 4,000 BOOKS AND SPECIAL COLLECTION ITEMS TO ITS PERMANENT COLLECT IN 2021.


LITERARY PROGRAMS:DURING 2021 POETS HOUSE EMBARKED ON AN IN-DEPTH LISTENING CAMPAIGN TO ENGAGE WITH STAKEHOLDERS AND THE COMMUNITY ON THE FUTURE DIRECTION OF PROGRAM OFFERINGS. POETS HOUSE ALSO LAUNCHED THE HARD HAT READING SERIES, A BI-WEEKLY SERIES OF POETS READING AMIDST THE CONSTRUCTION. OVER A HUNDRED THOUSAND PEOPLE ENJOYED THE POETS HOUSE POETRY PATH IN BATTERY PARK CITY AS THEY USED THE PARK AND GREENWAY. BIOGRAPHICAL MATERIAL AND RECORDINGS OF POETS FEATURED ON THE PATH WERE MADE AVAILABLE ON THE WEBSITE.


THE CHILDREN'S ROOM AT POETS HOUSE:WHEN POETS HOUSE REOPENS, THE CHILDREN'S ROOM WILL AGAIN OFFER CHILDREN AND TEENS A WAY TO EXPLORE LANGUAGE AS A VEHICLE FOR THE IMAGINATION, A MEANS OF SELF-EXPRESSION AND A PATHWAY TO UNDERSTANDING. THE CHILDREN'S ROOM USUALLY WELCOMES OVER 10,000 CHILDREN, YOUTH AND EDUCATORS EACH YEAR, WITH FREE CLASS TRIPS, FAMILY READING TIMES, AND A WEEKLY TINY POETS TIME. THE ORGANIZATION PLANS TO RESUME THESE SERVICES AS WELL AS POETRY AND WRITING INSTRUCTION FOR ELEMENATRY AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHEN IT REOPENS.
