TO PROVIDE GUIDE DOGS TO PEOPLE WHO ARE BLIND, DEAFBLIND, AND WITH ADDITIONAL DISABILITIES. ALL SERVICES ARE PROVIDED AT NO COST.

STUDENT INSTRUCTION AND GUIDE DOG TRAINING: THE GUIDING EYES STUDENT INSTRUCTION AND GUIDE DOG TRAINING IS COMPRISED OF THE FOLLOWING FUNCTIONAL PROGRAMS: EARLY/HOME SOCIALIZATION AND PUPPY RAISING FOR PURPOSE BRED GUIDE DOGS. ON-CAMPUS RESIDENTIAL TRAINING FOR BLIND OR VISUALLY IMPAIRED STUDENTS LEARNING TO USE A GUIDE DOG. SPECIALIZED TRAINING INSTRUCTION FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE BLIND WITH ADDITIONAL DISABILITIES OR OBSTACLES SUCH AS BALANCE, HEARING OR LEARNING CHALLENGES. THE RUNNING GUIDE PROGRAM THAT EMPOWER BLIND OR VISUALLY IMPAIRED STUDENTS TO LIVE A HEALTHY, MORE INDEPENDENT LIFESTYLE. HOME TRAINING FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE UNABLE TO TRAVEL TO NEW YORK FOR THE TWO WEEK ON CAMPUS PROGRAM. THESE PROGRAMS PROVIDE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE BLIND OR VISUALLY IMPAIRED WITH FULLY TRAINED GUIDE DOGS. ALL SERVICES, INCLUDING TRAVEL COSTS TO AND FROM THE NEW YORK TRAINING CENTER AND ROOM AND BOARD, ARE PROVIDED AT NO CHARGE TO STUDENTS. IN FISCAL YEAR 2021, GUIDING EYES SUCCESSFULLY GRADUATED ONE HUNDRED FOUR (104) GUIDE DOG TEAMS. DOGS NOT SUITED FOR GUIDE DOG WORK GO ON TO ALTERNATE CAREERS SUCH AS BEING ADOPTED BY OTHER NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS THAT SERVE INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES OR BY LAW ENFORCEMENT TO BE TRAINED AS DETECTION DOGS. OTHERS ARE RELEASED AS FAMILY PETS. ALL STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS ARE TRAINED BY GUIDING EYES WITH A FOCUS ON LOVE AND CARE FOR OUR DOGS THROUGHOUT THEIR WORKING LIFE.


VETERINARY SERVICES: AT GUIDING EYES, WE ARE DEDICATED TO PROVIDING EXCELLENCE IN VETERINARY CARE. WE OPERATE TWO STATE-OF-THE-ART VETERINARY HOSPITALS THROUGH OUR MAIN CAMPUS IN YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, NY AND OUR CANINE DEVELOPMENT CENTER IN PATTERSON, NY. OUR VETERINARIANS, LICENSED VETERINARY TECHNICIANS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF CARE FOR DOGS IN THE BREEDING, PUPPY, AND TRAINING PROGRAMS. OUR VETERINARY CARE EXTENDS TO GRADUATES OF GUIDING EYES FOR THE LIFETIME OF THEIR WORKING GUIDE DOGS THROUGH REMOTE COMMUNICATION AND REFERRALS, AND USING OUR OWN FACILITIES WHEN PROXIMITY ALLOWS. WE PERFORM ROUTINE SURGICAL AND DENTAL PROCEDURES, X-RAYS, SONOGRAMS, ENDOSCOPY, LABORATORY WORK, VACCINATIONS, AND AN ARRAY OF WELLNESS SERVICES. WE ALSO WORK WITH SPECIALISTS IN OPHTHALMOLOGY, CARDIOLOGY, NEUROLOGY, ORTHOPEDICS, AND RADIOLOGY, MANY OF WHOM DONATE SERVICES TO HELP PROVIDE OUR DOGS WITH THE BEST CARE POSSIBLE.


FACILITIES MANAGEMENT: GUIDING EYES IS COMPRISED OF FOUR (4) PROPERTIES IN NEW YORK STATE. GUIDING EYES HEADQUARTERS & TRAINING CENTER IN YORKTOWN HTS., NY, THIS CAMPUS HAS 19 STUDENT DORM ROOMS, NURSES' OFFICE, A COMPLETE DINING AREA WITH A FULL KITCHEN AND FIVE (5) KITCHEN STAFF PLANNING, PREPARING AND SERVING THREE (3) MEALS A DAY TO OUR RESIDENTIAL STUDENTS AND TRAINERS, A GYM, AN OUTDOOR SCREENED GAZEBO, A SENSORY GARDEN & WALKING PATH, VETERINARY HOSPITAL, DOG KENNEL (HOUSING UP TO 170 GUIDE DOGS IN TRAINING), AND ADMINISTRATION OFFICES. CANINE DEVELOPMENT CENTER IN PATTERSON, NY, THIS CAMPUS HAS A STATE-OF-THE-ART GENETICS DEPARTMENT, VETERINARY HOSPITAL, WHELPING KENNEL, BREEDING KENNEL, AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES ALONG WITH A FENCED IN WOODED AREAS FOR BREEDING DOGS TO EXERCISE. STUDENT TRAINING LOUNGE IN WHITE PLAINS, NY A TWO-STORY STAND-ALONE DWELLING RENOVATED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS AND TRAINERS. THE LOUNGE IS IN THE CITY OF WHITE PLAINS WHICH PROVIDES AN ENVIRONMENT FOR THE GUIDE DOG TEAM TO TRAIN IN A BUSY CITY ENVIRONMENT BUSTLING WITH TRAFFIC, BUSY STREETS & SIDEWALKS, TRAFFIC LIGHTS, CROSS WALKS, LOUD NOISES, AND ENDLESS DISTRACTIONS. THE DWELLING HAS BEEN RENOVATED FOR STUDENTS TO EXPERIENCE REAL LIFE SITUATIONS. THERE IS BOOTH SEATING IN THE DINING AREA, A COMPLETE HOME KITCHEN AND LIVING ROOM ON THE FIRST FLOOR. A STAIRWAY LEADS TO THE SECOND FLOOR LIVING SPACE WITH A QUIET ROOM TO RELAX WITH THEIR GUIDE DOG, AN EXERCISE AREA WITH A TREADMILL, AND A TV ROOM WHERE STUDENTS CAN MEET TO MINGLE OR WATCH A MOVIE. GUIDING EYES COMMUNITY OUTREACH CENTER, LOCATED IN THE SUBURBAN TOWN OF YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, NY. IN FISCAL YEAR 2021, GUIDING EYES LEASED & RENOVATED THIS SPACE WHICH ALLOWS THE ORGANIZATION TO BETTER CONNECT WITH THE COMMUNITY IN WHICH WE BEGAN. HERE, THE STUDENTS AND TRAINERS, TRAIN AND WORK THEIR GUIDE DOGS IN AN URBAN SETTING. WE WELCOME VISITORS TO SPEND TIME AND LEARN ABOUT OUR MISSION TO SERVE THE BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED.
