THE SAG HARBOR WHALING AND HISTORICAL MUSEUM OPERATES AS A NONPROFIT MUSEUM FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING ACCESS TO A MUSEUM DEDICATED TO THE HISTORY OF THE COMMUNITY. IN PARTICULAR, ITS HISTORY AS A WHALING PORT AND HOW THIS SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACTED THE WHALING INDUSTRY.

AS EDUCATOR AND STEWARD, THE SAG HARBOR WHALING AND HISTORICAL MUSEUEM PRESERVES THE DIVERSE HISTORY OF SAG HARBOR DURING AND AFTER ITS PERIOD OF WHALING. THROUGH EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING, EXHIBITIONS AND LECTURES, AND THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH OTHER INSTITUTIONS. OUR MISSION IS TO ENHANCE THE PUBLIC'S UNDERSTANDING OF SAG HARBOR'S RICH MARITIME AND CULTURAL HISTORY, THROUGH COLLECTIONS, ARTIFACTS AND DOCUMENTS THAT INSPIRE, ENRICH AND STIMULATE EVERYONE THAT ENTERS THE MUSEUM.
