THE EVERYONE WAS A FARMER PERMANENT EXHIBITION TELLS THE STORY OF FARMING IN LITTLE COMPTON FROM THE TIME OF THE SAKONNET PEOPLE UNTIL THE PRESENT DAY. IT ALSO PROVIDED AN OPPORTUNITY TO BETTER CARE FOR AND MANAGE OUR LARGE COLLECTION OF AGRICULTURAL ITEMS. IT SERVED APPROXIMATELY 1000 PEOPLE IN ITS FIRST YEAR AND WILL CONTINUE TO SERVE THE PUBLIC FOR AN ESTIMATED 15 OR 20 YEARS.


MUSEUM PROGRAM: THE ORGANIZATION COLLECTS, PRESERVES, AND PRESENTS EARLY LANDMARKS OF HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE TO THE TOWN OF LITTLE COMPTON FOR THE EDUCATION AND ENRICHMENT OF THE COMMUNITY. LCHS MAINTAINS HISTORIC BUILDINGS INCLUDING WILBOR HOUSE, FRIENDS MEETING HOUSE, ARCHIVAL BARN,19TH CENTURY BARN, 19TH CENTURY CARRIAGE HOUSE, PEGGOTTY ARTIST STUDIO, PEAKED TOP SCHOOL, CORN CRIB, PRIVY, AND THE CHICKEN FOOD COOKHOUSE. THE COLLECTION INCLUDES APPROXIMATELY 13,000 OBJECTS, PHOTOS, AND DOCUMENTS RELATING TO THE HISTORY OF LITTLE COMPTON.


THE SECRETS OF CELLAR HOLES PROJECT ENABLED US TO COLLABORATE WITH ARCHAEOLOGISTS TO RESEARCH AND INVESTIGATE THE CELLAR HOLE AT THE CHURCH-COLLINS-NICHOLSON SITE, A HOMESITE THAT DATES FROM THE 1600S AND WAS LIVED IN AT DIFFERENT TIMES BY ENGLISH COLONISTS AND AFRO-INDIGENOUS FAMILIES. VOLUNTEERS, INCLUDING THE LOCAL 8TH GRADE CLASS, HELPED WITH THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCAVATION OF THE SITE.


EDUCATION PROGRAM: THE ORGANIZATION RUNS YOUTH SUMMER CAMPS, SCHOOL PROGRAMS, AND ADULT PROGRAMS THAT SERVE TO EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY ABOUT THE HISTORY OF LITTLE COMPTON. THE EDUCATION PROGRAM SERVES APPROXIMATELY 500 PARTICIPANTS PER YEAR. DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THESE PROGRAMS WERE CONDUCTED VIRTUALLY.
