TO PROVIDE LEADERSHIP IN CLOSING THE ACHIEVEMENT AND OPPORTUNITY GAPS FOR UNDERSERVED STUDENTS BY FOCUSING ON SYSTEM TRANSFORMATION AND STUDENT ACADEMIC SUCCESS.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) STEM & ENGLISH PROGRAM. OUR AP STEM & ENGLISH PROGRAM (THE PROGRAM) IS A PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP TO INCREASE THE PARTICIPATION AND PERFORMANCE OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO ARE BLACK, LATINO, AND/OR FROM LOW-INCOME BACKGROUNDS IN RIGOROUS COURSEWORK AND PREPARE THEM FOR COLLEGE SUCCESS. THIS PROGRAM IS DISTINGUISHED BY THE DEPTH AND BREADTH OF ITS PROGRAM COMPONENTS, ITS SCALE, AND ITS HISTORY OF IMPACT. THE 2021-22 SCHOOL YEAR MARKED THE THIRTEENTH YEAR OF THE PROGRAM IN WHICH MASS INSIGHT PROVIDED SCHOOL AND DISTRICT SUPPORTS, TEACHER TRAINING, COACHING AND CLASSROOM SUPPORTS, AND DIRECT STUDENT SUPPORTS RANGING FROM OUT-OF-CLASSROOM LEARNING TIME TO EXAM FEE SUBSIDIES. WE PARTNERED WITH 99 HIGH SCHOOLS ACROSS MASSACHUSETTS, RHODE ISLAND AND CONNECTICUT DELIVERING OUR AP STEM & ENGLISH PROGRAM AND SERVED APPROXIMATELY 9,000 STUDENTS. THE PROGRAM IS THE LARGEST SECONDARY STEM PROGRAM IN MASSACHUSETTS. STUDENT OUTCOME DATA IN PARTNER SCHOOLS TELLS THE STORY OF OUR TRANSFORMATIVE IMPACT, WITH SIGNIFICANT INCREASES OVER BASELINE IN AP EXAM PARTICIPATION AND ATTAINMENT OF QUALIFYING SCORES (3 OR BETTER ON A SCALE OF 1 - 5) - INCREASES OF 89% AND 82%, RESPECTIVELY. MOST OF THESE OUTCOMES ARE AMPLIFIED FOR BLACK AND LATINO STUDENTS (INCREASES IN QUALIFYING SCORES OF 113%), AND STUDENTS FROM LOW-INCOME BACKGROUNDS (INCREASES IN EXAMS TAKEN AND QUALIFYING SCORES OF 125% AND 170%, RESPECTIVELY).


SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT. OUR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT TEAM WORKS WITH SCHOOLS, DISTRICTS, AND STATE EDUCATION AGENCIES NATIONWIDE. MASS INSIGHT'S SUPPORT TO PARTNERS INCLUDES DIAGNOSTICS, STRATEGIC PLANNING, AND IMPLEMENTATION SUPPORT. MASS INSIGHT ALSO FACILITATES NETWORKS TO ADVANCE THINKING AND BEST PRACTICES RELATED TO SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT.IN SY2021-22, MASS INSIGHT'S SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT EFFORTS ENGAGED 15 PARTNERS SERVING 9,081 SCHOOLS AND 5,599,850 RACIALLY/ETHNICALLY AND SOCIOECONOMICALLY DIVERSE STUDENTS. THE RACIAL/ETHNIC AND SOCIOECONOMIC COMPOSITION OF THE AVERAGE MI PARTNER WAS 33% LOW-INCOME, 19% LATINO, 18% BLACK, 56% WHITE AND 5% ASIAN. DURING SY2021-22, 53% OF SCHOOLS WITH MASS INSIGHT PARTNERED WERE DESIGNATED BY STATES AS IN NEED OF "COMPREHENSIVE SUPPORT AND IMPROVEMENT OR "TARGETED SUPPORT AND IMPROVEMENT." DURING THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR, MASS INSIGHT'S SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT ENGAGEMENTS INCLUDED EQUITY AUDITS, NON-EVALUATIVE SCHOOL ASSESSMENTS, AND SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION SUPPORT. PARTNERS REPORT IMPROVED ORGANIZATIONAL COHERENCE AND LEADERSHIP CAPACITY. IN ONE ENGAGEMENT AFFECTING MORE THAN 43 SCHOOLS, 76.47% OF SURVEY RESPONDENTS STRONGLY AGREED OR AGREED THAT MASS INSIGHT'S SUPPORT IMPROVED COHERENCE WITHIN THEIR ORGANIZATION. IN ANOTHER DISTRICT-LEVEL ENGAGEMENT, 100% OF SURVEY RESPONDENTS STRONGLY AGREED OR AGREED THAT MI'S SUPPORT IMPROVED THEIR CAPACITY TO MAKE DECISIONS.ALSO IN SY2021-22, MASS INSIGHT COMPLETED THE WORK OF THE ADVANCED PLACEMENT ACTION COMMUNITY, WHICH USED CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT METHODS TO IMPROVE AP PARTICIPATION AND SUCCESS FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE BLACK, LATINO, AND/OR FROM LOW-INCOME BACKGROUNDS. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE A 145.45% INCREASE IN AP EXAMS TAKEN AND A 113.33% INCREASE QUALIFYING SCORES RECEIVED BY BLACK STUDENTS OVER THE 2020 BASELINE, AND A CORRESPONDING 55.08% INCREASE IN AP EXAMS TAKEN AND 11.85% INCREASE IN QUALIFYING SCORES RECEIVED BY LATINO STUDENTS. MASS INSIGHT DEVELOPED AN AP EQUITY BUILDING TOOLKIT WHICH IS AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC.
