USITA'S NORMAL PROGRAM OPERATIONS ARE DESCRIBED BELOW. THESE OPERATIONS WERE TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED IN 2020 BECAUSE OF THE COVID PANDEMIC. PLANS ARE UNDERWAY TO RESUME OPERATIONS IN 2021. TEACHING PEOPLE HOW TO SAIL AND HOW TO RACE IN FLEETS. USITA OFFERS A PREMIER PROGRAM FOR TEACHING ADULTS HOW TO SAIL. THIS PROGRAM IS CONDUCTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ALAMITOS BAY YACHT CLUB (ABYC) IN LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA. THE ONSHORE PART OF THE TEACHING PROGRAM IS CONDUCTED IN FACILITIES OPERATED BY ABYC, WHILE THE ON-WATER PART OF THE PROGRAM TAKES PLACE IN TEMPEST SAILBOATS WHICH ARE OWNED BY USITA AND STORED AT ABYC.THIS PROGRAM INCLUDES THE ADULT SAILING PROGRAM AT THE ALAMITOS BAY YACHT CLUB (ABYC) IN LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA. USITA PROVIDED THE BOATS, INSTRUCTORS, COURSE MATERIAL, TEXT BOOKS AND TEACHING AIDS. ABYC PROVIDED THE ONSHORE FACILITIES USED AS CLASS ROOMS. TWO, FOUR-WEEK SESSIONS WERE CONDUCTED, AND WE HAD A TOTAL OF FOUR GRADUATES WHO RECEIVED THEIR CERTIFICATION IN BASIC KEELBOAT SAILING FROM THE AMERICAN SAILING ASSOCIATION IN LOS ANGELES. THE GRADUATES PROVIDED RAVE REVIEWS OF THE PROGRAM, AND ABYC WAS VERY PLEASED WITH USITA'S PERFORMANCE IN TEACHING SAILING.IN ADDITION TO USING THE ABYC ADULT SAILING PROGRAM TO TEACH SAILING, USITA ENTERED BOATS IN SEVERAL ABYC REGATTAS SO THAT NEW SAILORS COULD EXPERIENCE FLEET RACING.
