THE GLOBAL MISSION OF THE FSC IS TO PROMOTE ENVIRONMENTALLY APPROPRIATE, SOCIALLY BENEFICIAL AND ECONOMICALLY VIABLE MANAGEMENT OF THE WORLD'S FORESTS HERE IN THE US. FSC-US HAS DISTILLED THAT MISSION TO 'ENSURING FOREST STEWARDSHIP'. FSC'S UNIQUE SYSTEM OF TRANSPARENT, BALANCED AND DEMOCRATIC STANDARDS SETTING PROVIDES AN UNPARALLELED TOOL FOR CONSERVING AND MANAGING WORKING FORESTS, PROTECTING ECOSYSTEM FUNCTIONS, BIODIVERSITY AND THREATENED SPECIES, WATER RESOURCES AND COMMUNITY INTERESTS WHILE PROMOTING ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY.

ENHANCE SYSTEM INTEGRITY:THE FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL SETS STANDARDS FOR RESPONSIBLE FOREST MANAGEMENT AND CHAIN OF CUSTODY CERTIFICATION. OUR ENTIRE SYSTEM IS BASED ON THESE STANDARDS, SO MAINTAINING THEIR INTEGRITY, RELEVANCE AND IMPACT ARE TOP PRIORITIES. OUR WORK IN THIS AREA INCLUDES DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF TANDARDS AND POLICIES AND ENGAGING STAKEHOLDERS TO ENSURE OUR NORMATIVE FRAMEWORK REFLECTS A CONSENSUS OF THE DIVERSE INTERESTS OF OUR BROAD-BASED MEMBERSHIP.


INCREASE CONSUMER DEMAND:THE FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL IS A VOLUNTARY, MARKET-BASED SYSTEM THAT RELIES ON COMPANIES AND THEIR CUSTOMERS TO DRIVE DEMAND FOR FSC-CERTIFIED PRODUCTS AND IN TURN SUPPORT GROWTH IN FOREST LANDS PROTECTED UNDER FSC STANDARDS. TO FACILITATE THESE EFFORTS, FSC INVESTS IN CONSUMER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH, ENGAGES COMPANIES TO DEVELOP PROGRESSIVE FOREST PRODUCTS PROCUREMENT POLICIES AND COMMUNICATE WITH THEIR CUSTOMERS, AND WORKS WITH THE PUBLIC SECTOR TO PROMOTE SOUND POLICIES SUPPORTING FOREST STEWARDSHIP. FSC FOCUSES ITS INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT EFFORTS IN GREEN BUILDING, PAPER AND PRINTING, PACKAGING, FURNITURE AND BIOENERGY.


INCREASE DOMESTIC ACREAGE:INCREASING THE ACREAGE OF FORESTS CERTIFIED TO FSC'S HIGH STANDARDS IS FUNDAMENTAL TO OUR MISSION. TO ENSURE EQUITY, FSC PROMOTES CERTIFICATION ACROSS LAND OWNERSHIP CLASSES INCLUDING AMONG FAMILY FORESTS.
