THE COUNCIL IS CHARTERED BY THE NATIONAL BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION TRADES DEPARTMENT (AFL-CIO). ITS PURPOSE IS TO MONITOR LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS ACTIVITY OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND TO PROMOTE AND PROTECT THE INTERESTS OF WORKERS IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY.

THE PRIMARY ACTIVITY OF THE KLMC IS THE PRESENTATION OF AN ANNUAL CONFERENCE THAT FEATURES SPEAKERS AND PANEL DISCUSSIONS ADDRESSING TIEMELY TOPICS OF CONCERN TO BOTH LABOR AND MANAGEMENT. THE GOAL IS TO PROVIDE BOTH PARTIES WITH THE CONCERNS OF THE OTHER ON MATTERS OF COMMON INTEREST. THE CONFERENCE ALSO AWARDS THOSE WHO HAVE MADE SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO POSITIVE LABOR/MANAGEMENT RELATIONS; YOUNG LABOR/MANGEMENT LEADERS WHO HAVE ALREADY DISTINGUISHED THEMSELVES IN THEIR RESPECTIVE FIELDS; AND, SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS PURSUING POST- SECONDARY EDUCATION IN LABOR/MANAGEMENT RELATIONS. THE CONFERENCE ALSO PROMOTES IMPROVED RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN MEMBERS OF LABOR AND MANAGEMENT THROUGH A VARIETY OF EVENTS.
