WASHINGTON PLACE, INC. IS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT CORPORATION FORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NOT-FOR-PROFIT STATUTES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA. THE CORPORATION WAS FORMED FOR THE PURPOSE OF OPERATING A 16 UNIT PROJECT KNOWN AS WASHINGTON PLACE APARTMENTS LOCATED IN SUMTER, SOUTH CAROLINA, WHICH PROVIDES HOUSING FOR LOW INCOME PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES. THE CORPORATION RECEIVES HOUSING ASSISTANCE FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT PURSUANT TO SECTION 811 OF THE NATIONAL HOUSING ACT, AS AMENDED. THE APARTMENT COMMUNITY COMMENCED OPERATIONS IN AUGUST 1993.

THE SPECIFIC PURPOSE OF THE CORPORATION IS TO DEVELOP, REDEVELOP, MANAGE, SPONSOR, OWN, AND EXPAND THE AVAILABILITY OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR VERY LOW AND MODERATE INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN THE GREATER STONINGTON AREA. IN FURTHERANCE OF ITS PURPOSE, THE CORPORATION MAY BUILD, ACQUIRE, RENOVATE, REHABILITATE, AND REVITALIZE STRUCTURES TO BE OCCUPIED BY VERY LOW, LOW, AND MODERATE INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN THE AREA SERVED BY THE CORPORATION ON ITS OWN OR IN COLLABORATION WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE.
