CONSERVATION & EDUCATION - THE BENEFIT AND ENJOYMENT OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC, TO PROMOTE THE PRESERVATION AND CONSERVATION OF THE NATURAL, CULTURAL, AND HISTORIC RESOURCES OF THE DAMARISCOTTA-PEMAQUID REGION, RESEARCH AND SCIENTIFIC STUDY, AND PUBLIC EDUCATION.

CONSERVATION EFFORTS CENTER ON THE DAMARISCOTTA-PEMAQUID REGION, ENCOMPASSING EIGHT TOWNS. COASTAL RIVERS OWNS 71 PRESERVES, HOLDS 60 EASEMENTS, AND CO-MANAGES AN ADDITIONAL 12 PROPERTIES, TOGETHER TOTALING MORE THAN 5,000 ACRES UNDER OWNERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT. WE WORK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PRIVATE LANDOWNERS, AGENCIES, AND OTHER NON-PROFITS. GIFTS OF LAND AND CONSERVATION EASEMENTS FROM GENEROUS DONORS, AS WELL AS TARGETED PURCHASES, HELP US GROW AND CONNECT OUR NETWORK OF CONSERVED LANDS FOR PUBLIC BENEFIT - WILDLIFE, WATER QUALITY, SCENIC INTEGRITY, HISTORICAL PRESERVATION, AND PUBLIC ACCESS. WITH DOZENS OF NATURAL AREAS, MORE THAN 50 MILES OF TRAILS, AND SEVERAL ISLANDS IN OUR CARE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, WE WORK HARD TO CREATE NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS TO GET OUT ON THE LAND AND WATER WHILE RESPECTING THE PRECIOUS AND SOMETIMES FRAGILE NATURAL RESOURCES WE ALL ENJOY AND BENEFIT FROM.


OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF TWO HISTORIC FARM HOUSES AND SURROUNDING LAND. THESE SERVE AS NATURE CENTERS, EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES, AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES. IN ADDITION, THESE RESOURCES PROVIDE A COMMUNITY HUB FOR THE DAMARISCOTTA REGION, HOSTING A PUBLIC SLEDDING HILL, FARMERS' MARKET, AND CENTRAL MEETING SPACE FOR NATURE PROGRAMS.


EDUCATION, OUTREACH, AND MARINE PROGRAMS AND MATERIALS, INCLUDING THE SCHOOL FOR FIELD NATURALISTS AND RELATED PROGRAMS. CONNECTING PEOPLE AND PLACE IS CENTRAL TO OUR MISSION. WE ARE CONVINCED THAT ENGAGING YOUTH AND ADULTS ALIKE WITH THE NATURAL WORLD IN THIS EXCEPTIONAL REGION BUILDS A STRONGER COMMUNITY OF CARING STEWARDS DEDICATED TO THE INTEGRITY OF THE DAMARISCOTTA-PEMAQUID REGION.PROGRAMS INCLUDE MIDCOAST STEWARDS, OYSTER GARDENING, CAMP MUMMICHOG, ARCHAEOLOGY FIELD SCHOOL, MUSHROOM WORKSHOPS, EDIBLE SEAWEED COURSES, WABANAKI LIVING SKILLS AND CULTURE AND HEALTH OF THE DAMARISCOTTA RIVER. THESE ARE OFFERED TO BENEFIT SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN, INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, AND MUNICIPAL OFFICIALS.
